I hear ya, but with all due respect, I think a team with Beal, Schloemer, Jennings, and then pick any two out of Wimzie, Phil Davis, Mike Moore, Leo Foster, etc. would score. 78 team put up almost 80 a game, 1980 team put up 85 a game.... Two completely different styles across the eras, and I know its an academic discussion about who would win.... About this I am certain, though, you would never have seen the teams in the late 70s early 80s in a 32-29 regional final.

I don't want to sound like "that guy", but respectfully, Schloemer, Beal, Jennings, You, and Guru would beat that team.

 

By the way, I LOVE Bolden and Arrez, and you won't find a bigger Austin Hill fan than me. Love those guys, but the 3 I mentioned are all-timers.

 

Bottom-line: Holmes has produced some great players! Their 3rd best starting 5 of all-time would boat-race most schools' best ever.

I'd say over the last 20 years there's been a deeper emphasis on solid defense eliminating the old run and gun game of first team to 80 wins. Teams now have to play more patient, smarter, and be more selective with their shots, making every possession count avoiding wasted trips up the court. I still see good shooting, just think that coaches are trying harder to instill the idea of smarter shot selection.

 

Aside from that you also have the addition of the 3 point shot that might increase points, but it's a lower percentage shot than a traditional mid-range jumper that has sadly been somewhat devalued since the inception of the "3" creating either an inside or outside game with lesser emphasis on a more sure thing mid-range.

Later this month, the Covington Independent Schools/Tom Ellis Athletic Memorial will have their inaugural induction class to their Hall of Fame. It is unreal that they have not had a Hall of Fame sooner, but the first class is solid. I believe there will be a nice dinner associated with this and I believe there are still spots available to attend. I figure there are quite a few alumns that may have an interest, but here is the two trailers promoting the Inaugural class.

In my lifetime, I would say:

Schloemer- Mr. Basketball.

Beal- Still carries the torch in my opinion.

Jennings- I think people really underestimate how good he was.

C. Pouncy- Often forgotten, but he was a tough physical point guard who could really play. You want to see some scoring, check out the 1990 Sweet 16 Runner-Up team. They busted the century mark a bunch that year. He saw time as a 9th grader on the Jennings led 1988 team.
