Politics....you said it all with that word. This is in response to an earlier post.

Would like to see the stat line when they played each other. So it's apples to apples.

The state tournament could definitely decide the outcome of Mr. Basketball this year much like 2 years ago when Hickey won it. Most people thought Bowling Green's Behanen would win it. Hickey had a great state trournament leading Christian Co. to the title. Just about every coach in the state attends the state tournament. If Prewitt or Hawkins has a great run and leads their team to the finals I can see the coaches in the state voting for them. Coaches who may have voted for Willis or Troutman could easily change their vote.

Defintely think MC has played a tougher schedule. Hawkins got a lot of recognition playing in KOB in front of a lot of Louisville coaches. Montgomery Co. backed out of the KOB.

Since only two of the five finalist are in the state tournament, I think it makes sense to choose between two players, Omar Prewitt and Dominique Hawkins.

 

Not to take anything away from Omar Prewitt. He is a nice player.

 

I love what Dominique Hawkins does on the basketball court. Alan Feldhaus, Jr. is a fine coach, but if you give me Hawkins, I might be able to take a team to the Sweet Sixteen and I have never coached a game.

 

The kid has "IT".

Going with Prewitt after his dismantling of Scott over the weekend. Was torn with him and Hawkins. Couldn't go wrong with either.

Not really a clear cut winner this year like some years past. I'd say that right now it's 1. Willis and 1a. Hawkins. Prewitt has a chance if he sets the world on fire at state this week.

 

I think Hicks' transfer to Trinity and sitting out a year probably damaged his chances the most. Willis will have some of his votes in the Louisville area eroded by Troutman. Same goes for Hawkins/Prewitt with the voters in Central Kentucky.

I think Hicks being hurt this year hurt more than anything else but playing on a Trinity team that didn't need to rely on him did hurt as well.

Couple years back in 9th region...think Ross Neltner from highlands was Mr bball for the state and Justin Doellman from Ryle was regional POY. Politics at its best...Doellman was the better player.

You are spot on, Highlands toured the state with Neltner and Ryle played mostly in NKY, Doellman was by far the better player, he wins 9th region POY, and Neltner gets Mr. Basketball, it was a travesty!

Gotta think that Hawkins is playing himself into Mr. Basketball with his sweet 16.

After watching this state tourney if anyone thinks Dominique Hawkins isnt Mr. Bball you dont know the first thing about the sport! D Hawk has put them on his back!!!
