Just to be clear, do you believe that you can make it to Heaven by other means than through Christ?

 

IF by this you mean... a child or an adult living in (China, Africa.. name the place) and has never been exposed to the teachings of Christ,,. do I believe that person can make it to heaven absolutely. If by this you mean a Jewish or Moslem who has lived a devout and good life yes I do.

 

I have hard time in the belief that God almighty would not reward a truly good person whatever the faith access to heaven just because of when and where he or she was born or what religion they happened to be brought up believing.

I have a hard time believing that a holy God would send his only begotten son into this world as the penultimate sacrifice for the sins of the world, then tell us through his son that no one enters Heaven but by him, that he was kidding. Do I think that if there is a chance that someone hasn't been exposed to the gospel that they can make it? I have no idea. I hope so. Is that not the point of the great commission?

I'd have to believe that those un-exposed to the gospel certainly can - after all, if even before He formed us in the womb God knew us, then why would He abandon us if we had the dumb luck of never being exposed to the gospel after we were formed in the womb?

I don't disagree at all. I really wish it was the "all paths to heaven" method. I would hope no one would miss heaven. But that's not scriptural at all. But, as the age old argument will surely ensue, one would have to believe scripture to believe that anyway.

 

And I apologize for skewing the thread, because we've left the topic. I am anxious to hear the gist of Tebow's "speech".

I know quite a few Catholics too - mostly family. They believe their salvation is through the church, hence those outside the [Catholic] church are not saved. Not saying this is what Catholicism teaches, but in practice most that I know believe this.

I'm Catholic, my family is Catholic and many of our friends are Catholic. I can't think of one that believes those outside the Catholic church are not saved. My view is the way to salvation is through Christ, not through the branch of religion you belong to.

Understood, I just believe if he truly had those feelings against Catholics he wouldn't date one no matter what her station in life. Unless he's a total fraud (possible) he's not doing it for the sex as he claims he's waiting for marriage.

It was Jesus who said that he was the way, the truth & the life and that no man comes to the Father except through him. That's what I was referring to earlier when I said Jesus made some claims that would be lambasted by people today & labeled as being intolerant, narrow-minded, etc.

 

So if someone has a belief that Jesus is the only way to salvation, then they are just repeating what Jesus himself said.

I freely admit you raised a good point and one to consider.

 

I considered it and saw a difference. To me it's a clear and simple difference.

 

It's like me sitting in a Catholic church for years despite not fully agreeing with everything said by the Pastor or the church itself. I'm a member and look at a bigger picture than particular quotes/beliefs. Taken as a whole, I support the church despite its issues (and there are plenty). I look at the POTUS as the same. He's a member of the church. Supports the church even though the pastor is a bit radical.

 

Tebow isn't a member of this guy's church. He's going there as a guest. Unless he is going there to tell the man where he's wrong (and he won't do that IMO) then he is implying that he supports the beliefs.
