February 21, 201313 yr Author Interesting. Did he endorse Perry or something? Were the Rolling Stone articles Perry-centered or were they more exposing some of the things Jeffress has stated from the pulpit? Not sure of the endorsement. I would guess yes but it would be just that. Article was more about Gov Perry and , in the writer's view, his associations with radical religious folk.
February 21, 201313 yr But if you believe do you succumb to public pressure? I've stated what I would do if I were Tim Tebow. First of all, I wouldn't have signed up for this to start with, but that was based on the assumption that he was aware of what had been said. If Tebow was aware of the statements Mr. Jeffress has made & signed on, I don't think that's wise. If he was aware & signed on & then backed out due to public pressure, that is worse IMO. Having said that, we cannot know for sure what Tebow knew & when he knew it. He doesn't seem the type that would back down from any platform that gives him an opportunity to share his faith, so I'm surprised he has canceled. If I had to venture a guess, I'm saying that the bases were not covered when this arrangement was made & when Tebow was made aware, he backed out. Regardless of why he backed out, I don't see a mountain of evidence supporting either of the two possible reasons.

Not knowing about Jeffress OR bowing to public pressure would not give him a good out IMO.
February 21, 201313 yr Are there any possible reasons that give him a good out? Not knowing about Jeffress OR bowing to public pressure would not give him a good out IMO. The first "out" doesn't give me any reason to criticize Tebow the man. It only points to a need for him (or his people, most likely) to be better prepared and do their homework. That happens to everybody. The second "out" isn't good IMO. It means Tebow knew about Jeffress, signed on anyway, & then backed out when people started yapping about it. Some might perceive that as unfair for me to say it isn't good, but it's how I personally go about things. If I'm doing something that I think is right, I couldn't care less what others think about that.
February 21, 201313 yr But if you believe do you succumb to public pressure? Not sure how much public pressure he was getting as I haven't see too many articles on it but if he believes his true message is being overshadowed, sure. His goal is to get a message out. Don't think it would be the first or last time something like this has happened.
February 21, 201313 yr Author Not sure how much public pressure he was getting . Lots of online discussion/debate.

I would think either would give him a good out. He's a 25 year old NFL player of faith, not a guru on every religious organization out there.
February 21, 201313 yr Lots of online discussion/debate. Is that considered pressure? Seems like that's pretty common.

February 21, 201313 yr Author Is that considered pressure? Seems like that's pretty common. Most of was anti-Jeffress.
February 21, 201313 yr Author How would not knowing about Jeffress before hand not be a good out? It's the better of the two. However, when you're a public figure and you give a lot of speeches it's your job or your rep's job to vet any and all organizations that want you to speak. Being that I'm rather cynical and without a shred of proof IMO Tebow and his crew were already aware of Jeffress and his church. It's one of the larger churches in the country.
February 21, 201313 yr Not sure, WHY???? With all the trash in the world people wanna take time to not like this guy??? Baffles me.
February 21, 201313 yr That's what I thought. I've been a Christian for 21 years. I listen to some preachers on the radio frequently & I had never heard of him until this thread. Nor had I ever heard of the church. The church is in Texas, which is Joel Osteen (most well-known preacher) & Max Lucado (most well-known author) territory. I'd say he's more well known for his politics. He pops up every now and then with a controversial proclamation or something, but he's more prevalent during campaign season as candidates seek his endorsement or to have him speak at their events. I can't speak to all of his religious views, but he's the kind that seems to believe God would endorse a particular candidate and his sermons are just about indistinguishable from stump speeches. I find that kind of thing noxious.

No one is denying it shows a lack of preparation, but that doesn't say anything negatively about Tebow the person. I'm fairly well-versed on political/religious issues and had never heard of Jeffress until this thread.
