February 11, 201313 yr I couldn't blame him for either choice. It is a tough decision. He is #1 on Kipers Big Board by a mile for next years draft. He is a freak football player and his stock can't get any higher. If we were still on the old rookie pay scale its a no brainer to sit out, and if I were in his shoes I probably still would. But with any elite athlete you feel invincible , and that the injury can't happen to you. Very interesting situation.
February 11, 201313 yr I normally loathe sports agents, but under these specific circumstances, Clowney has nothing left to prove playing for South Carolina and should have been advised to register for the NFL draft THIS YEAR. He can always finish school AFTER his playing days are over. He would be, IMO, in this draft class, the # 1 pick. He is a game changing pass rusher meriting double teaming on every play.

February 11, 201313 yr If he sits he is the first pick in next years draft barring the emergence of a QB good enough to take that slot. If he plays he could be injured, preform at a lower level, have team issues(poor record,dissension among teammates etc...) that would diminish his stock. If I were to guide him on what to do in his own best interests, I would have him sit out. Hire an agent to begin working endorsements and appearances (ESPN would hire him). Hire an NFL retired d line coach and a coordinator to guide his development over the next year. Follow the strength regiment that got you where you are. Show up at the combine in excellent shape. Workout once. Go to the bank and deposit your record signing bonus. This works for Clowney only. Anyone else in college right now could not pull it off.

February 11, 201313 yr You guys act like if he takes a year off, he's automatically the #1 pick next year. That's a huge assumption, and one that is probably incorrect. Teams will seriously question his desire, work ethic, and heart. NFL players will have no respect for him.
