If we are going to play that game.... Newcath only beat Cooper by "a whopping" 2 with them missing half of their starting lineup, only beat Dixie by 2, and lost to Covcath at home.

 

Honestly, none of that matters when it comes to this game. It is about match ups and how you play THAT NIGHT. A win is a win all day whether it is by 1 or 50.

None of the top 4 teams can say they are better than the other 3 with the exception of Holmes cuz until someone knocks them off, and IMO it won't be NCC this Friday, they are the only team that can claim to be better than Cooper or CCH and that's after Cooper clearly dominated CCH and lost by 2 to NCC yes without 2 of its starters. So, slow ur roll S II and let's play the game before u start talking about just how much better u THINK ur team is.

Reread my post Mr Sixer. My post is in regard to the Holmes faithful spouting off about how much better they are than the rest. It says nothing about NCC being the better team. I agree with one point from Walter, this does come down to match-ups, I for one think the inside matchups favor NCC big time and will be the determining factor in the game.

 

BTW, do your homework before you call people out - I'm not associated with NCC - I am a fan that has seen both teams play and just have an opinion.

If I can recall the game against Newcath and Cooper. Cooper didn't have 2 starters play that game but Newcath was in foul trouble the whole game and had most of their starters out most of the game and the Newcath subs really step it up and won that game.

NCC has not seen a defense like the Bulldogs...the big men do not have the speed to keep up with Bulldogs, period.

NewCath was starting a Sophomore PG in his first big game. Neither Cooper, nor NewCath, are the same team that they were that first week of the season. If NewCath plays within themselves, they are a very frustrating team to play against due to how well they pass and run their half court sets. If Holmes hits from the outside, or gets more than 2 runs, then they are in the driver seat. As has been said, tempo will be the key to the game.

You do realize that they played Trinity, right? I'm sure that Holmes is very fast and all, but Trinity was big and fast. Bardstown wasn't slow either.

 

Also, people are acting like Seibert and Schulte are just big and can't move. Pangallo is about as quick as you will find. Holmes definitely has the advantage, but it is nowhere near as pronounced as people are saying. That is like saying that Holmes has no chance if it gets into a half court game. They have Booher and very good guard play. They can play any tempo you want. Does NewCath want to run w/ Holmes? Probably not. Does it mean that they can't run at all? No.

Question for Walter or GetSome as they clearly follow Holmes closer than anyone. First off this is NOT a knock on Holmes whatsoever and them being undefeated at the present time, just an observation. Outside of the 9th region's top teams, who has Holmes beaten that is considered a top team around the state, if any? - Again, not knocking the Dogs at all as they deserve to be ranked #1 until they get knocked off but...NCC has played Lou Trinity and Bardstown in the All A final, CCH has played several top teams from Ky and Ohio, HC has played a brutal schedule of teams ranked in top 10 of the state.

 

My overall point is this. Holmes is #1 until they get beat and should be considered to be one of the favorites to win the 9th obviously, but would they be undefeated at this point in the season if they would have played a tougher schedule similar to say HC this year that has included Scott Co twice, Fleming Co, Madison Central, Bullitt East & PRP ? My answer to that is no. I would be interested to see if people would take HOLMES or the FIELD in a poll of who wins the 9th ?....maybe I'll make that a new thread in a few weeks. LOL

There's no question HC's schedule is much tougher than Holmes. Fair question to ask about them being undefeated. I do believe they are still the best team in the 9th but are far from a shoo-in to win it. Records can be deceiving.

Agree 100%. Holmes will be the favorite in the tournament in a couple weeks but I will take "the field" in the 9th.

Man, after reading all this, Coach Brannen should cancel the game and see if he can get autographs from the Holmes players. Sounds like NCC has no chance!

 

Brossart, Knott Co, and Bardstown must not be very good to get beat by NCC. Bolden is a stud, however not quite at the level of Cameron Justice. NCC did a nice job limiting Justice clean looks at the basket and feel they can do the same to Bolden. NCC does not have to shut down Bolden. They need to CONTINUE to play team defense and they will be fine.

 

Like others have stated, Holmes deserves to be number one. My concern is their strength of schedule. Are they battle tested? I have watched them several times (most recent at Boone) and I'm not sure Holmes has seen a defense like NCC. Holmes did a nice job crashing the offensive boards, however I am of the belief it will not be that easy against NCC's length.

 

Holmes needs to shoot well to win this.

They were not "blown out" by T. Yes, the margin was wide at the end but it was a close game for most of the game.
