When I was listening online Mark and Rich said the CCH section had about 3 rows of students. This was early 2nd half. It didn't sound as loud as normal.

Wow the Birds only took 39 shots compares to 55 by the Colonels.

 

Somebody else said it earlier, ditch the 1980's sets like the Flex and put in a dribble Drive and some ballscreens. Atleast get some shots off, watching pass, pass,pass,pass turnover is frustrating.

 

Couldn't agree with you more, if you know you’re out matched the only way you have a chance to win is to take more shots. Look at the NFL these days, the new stat of the year is “how many offensive snaps a team takes in a game” obviously more is good. I played with most of this current Highlands team over the summer and I can tell you some of them have decent shots, however watching them play last night they looked like they were scared to death to even look at the basket. At least one time the Cov Cath defender almost jokingly gave the Highlands player (not Witte or Houliston) the open baseline and the Highlands player hesitated and threw the ball away trying to kick it back out. Flynn – Let your team shoot, play defense, rotate guys in if they’re tired and see what happens, at least that way the boys will look like they’re at least enjoying themselves playing the game they love.

Highlands had a nice crowd and the Crazies were about half staffed it looked like. They were very tame last night but not much to get pumped about since the game was never in doubt.

 

The new court and lighting really provides a great atmosphere. Other noticeable upgrades to the Gymnasium is the Huge trophy cabinet built last summer. Also, I believe there will not be any future roof leaks where they have to section off areas of the stands with crime tape and buckets.

I might add a very nice effort from half court! I know two 8th grade boys that had very little to discuss about the game but I did hear a nice discussion about Haley and glad they were not the two boys shooting against her. I told my son Mom had game like that! I got the yea right look.

I realize that you are just kidding, but I was thinking more in the line that the kid came super close to perhaps being seriously injured with a head or neck injury. I wasn't suggesting anything sinister in the ways of paybacks. I didn't mean for it to sound that way, but I guess that I can sorta see where it did.

Can someone please tell me if the rumor I heard last night about next year being Flynn’s last year coaching due to his retirement from his “day job” is true or not?

 

Before last night I would see the “footballers that have bball talent” around town and beg them to play or at least give the game a second chance and go out for the team again this year, well after what I saw last night I don’t blame them for not playing nor do I blame the “basketball only” kid from transferring. I do however have an all new respect for those kids who do decided to play under this current coach, either they have a tremendous love of the game or their parents threatened that they must push carts @ Kroger’s if they’re not playing a winter sport. IMO this program needs a shot in the arm quick!! What it needs is a former Highlands BBALL player that had some success at Highlands (I’m fairly new around the basketball program to know if there is anyone out there that might fit those requirements) How about even giving a younger guy a chance? I can tell you if I’m a kid on the fence about playing Highlands Bball or not and I see the way Flynn coaches during the game and can only imagine the countless hours spent passing the ball like “Hoosiers” during practice I wouldn’t be knocking over doors to play either. Get a young coach, put some excitement back in the program and see what happens. Or maybe the conspiracy theorists are right by saying that Mueller secretly likes it this way. Guess this probably should have been under the “What’s WRONG with Highlands Basketball” thread, sorry. Why I do agree somewhat with what “tommyb” had to say in that thread about other kids playing year around making the difference I’m not completely sold on that, there is enough talent in 41075 to at least operate a program that doesn’t get blown out by 40 at home.

Someone please tell me what kids are currently at HHS walking the halls that would make an impact on the varsity team right now. I would love to hear some answers to this question. It is easy to make these statements, but can someone give an answer because I would love to hear them. The baseball program is on the uptick because there are kids at HHS that are dedicated to the baseball program first and any other activity comes in second. The basketball program does not have that kid or kids thus you have a team of athletes playing against a team of basketball players. Highlands has an inability to score the basketball that is only partly the result of the offense, the other is there simply are not many good shooters in the program as evidenced by the poor free throw shooting. IMO, the defense is even worse than the offense. Picking up a good guard full court lead to deep penetration into the lane and either a layup or kick out to the 3 point line for a wide open jumper which many good "basketball" players can knock down. Effort has been much better the last 2 games that I have watched, but the results simply do not reflect that.

 

A final note, should all of the football programs in Northern Kentucky re-evaluate their coaches because they cannot compete with Highlands on an annual basis? If I have the Jimmies and Joes on an annual basis I can compete, if I do not, well then the result will not be good.
