Sure, here you go. I view a coach as doing a good job if his/her team is playing hard at both ends of the floor everyday in practice and in games. Do the kids respect you and believe that what you are preaching is the best way to get things done. Do the kids and you, the coach, enjoy coming to practice and games everyday with the intent of having fun and working hard. Just some thoughts and this does not guarantee that a team will win. Everyone wants to judge wins and losses and without the Jimmies and Joes it is mighty tough in todays high school sports. Malachi pointed out previously that the program simply does not have the "stud" basketball only player/players that are needed to be successful every year. I have said many times that the current style being used does not fit the type of players that are currently in the program. Emphasis should be on defense and minimizing easy looks at the basket and let the defense create opportunities for your offense to score easy baskets.

 

I am done discussing this any further as there are many on here that know and understand what is going on and there are others that want to make statements and have thoughts without seeing the product at all or maybe only one time. This year alone I have heard that HHS should fire the boys and girls soccer coaches and the girls basketball coach and we have not even gotten to the spring sports season yet.

 

Thanks for "a" definition. I agree that a Coach that did all of those things could be "doing a good job" and still not have many "Ws" to their credit. That said, I don't know if Coach Flynn meets all, some or any of those qualities.

 

I am not close enough to OR knowledgeable enough about the situation to form or express an opinion. I am, however, interested in learning the opinions of those that are close to and knowledgeable about it. Thanks for sharing.

Actually, most of the people on here making comments on this thread have seen the product on multiple occassions this season and followed the product for multiple seasons. Some have kids on the team. Others that have commented have kids that have been in the program and decided not to play any longer. Some may, just may, understand it just a little better than you do. But you tend to want to dismiss any view other than your own. I too am done with this thread. Go Birds! Beat Rebels!!

Quite honestly, feel free to do so. This game, in the long run, may serve way more good than bad.

 

 

HHS being completely dominated on the scoreboard by a CovCath may have been the best thing that could have happened. I surely didn't think so as I was watching it unfold. But now that another game has passed and the Birds were able to get a victory over a Campbell team that just took NCC deep into the 4th qtr before coming up short, I look at it a little differently.

 

 

Style was a little different. Personnel groupings were a little different (albeit maybe due to injury, maybe not). Senior leadership was definately evident.

 

 

As the rest of the season progresses, we will see if the CCH butt whipping is what it tokk to get things turned around. If we fall back into the old style, I may ttt this thread myself.

Iam not a diehard Boys basketball fan at Highlands but I am a diehard Highlands supporter of all sports and I would love to put his name into the ears of those that would listen.

 

Iam also a huge ML fan because of what he stands for but I think he may be close to retirement.

But there may not be a lot of ounces on the team. I think the issue is the amount of and quality of ounces available rather than whether or not they are giving their best. I suck at alliteration but hopefully you understand where I was going.

I hear what you are sayin and I have heard the arguments in the HHS bb threads before, but as a parent of Student/Athletes at Highlands this isn't the first time or last time I will see these debates about Coaches.

 

How many times have you heard, "if so and so was the coach of this group of kids they would have won it all"...

 

I wouldnt discount the "ounces" on this yrs team either, they might not have the best athletes in the school playing bb but they have the best dedicated bb kids to not allow gettin beat by certain teams.

 

And for those to say its all football fault, well, just well...That's probably who I would blame too.
