Who said anything about begging? You have to play a fun style of ball. Make them want to come to practice and open gyms, relate to the kids and put the kids in a position to succeed. The point is there are kids roaming the halls that could help the team. For whatever reason they decided they did not want to play. Question is why? All of them played AAU ball. All of them are, obviously, are very gifted athletes and had some success, in the past, playing hoops. AND from what I witnessed, enjoyed playing the game. Just my two cents, not placing blame on anyone. Just an opinion based on observations over the course of a few years....

 

Trust me, Im with you. I have always said that you have to show interest in the kids and keep the kids in the program. My point is, it has been said by those very very close to the coaches that he will not beg anyone to play or stay at Highlands. I think showing some interest in the kids and possibly communicating with them about why they may not want to play may have helped. Thing is, not gonna happen with Flynn. Unfortunately because I think Hope could have been coerced to play with a little more interest and he could have helped this team in the paint.

I already thought he retired from his other job. Thought he did that last year.

 

He did, apparently his wife can retire in a year or so and he is biding some time until that happens.

By the way a little Birdy told me Scott Draud is showing some interest in Getting on at Highlands as a teacher. Hmmmmm he would be an option to take over after Flynn.Plus, I have heard he wants to send his son to Ft Thomas schools. I believe hes a 4th or 5yh grader right now.

I posted that I did not understand Bird Bath's comment that CCH is out of their league..... but then I figured he probably meant that CCH was out of HHS's league. At least I assumed that is what he meant, not that CCH is out of their league in playing the birds.

Give me your definition of "good job" and I can better answer that question. Wins and losses to me is not the true barometer of whether or not you are doing a good job. The main issues that I have are the reluctance to make changes to your system that better fits your personnel. This is what Dale does on an annual basis and we know how successful he is.

I could see Christian, Collinsworth, Hope, Hoge, Urlage and Jake Whitford all, potentially, having an impact for this years team. That is just off the top of my head and based on watching this team play this season. Just an opinion.

You are entitled to your opinion. We will agree to disagree. I am not going to get into discussing specific players and what roles they would play and if they are better than the currest cast. You, obviously, are a lot closer to this program at this time than I am. So, good luck.

Sure, here you go. I view a coach as doing a good job if his/her team is playing hard at both ends of the floor everyday in practice and in games. Do the kids respect you and believe that what you are preaching is the best way to get things done. Do the kids and you, the coach, enjoy coming to practice and games everyday with the intent of having fun and working hard. Just some thoughts and this does not guarantee that a team will win. Everyone wants to judge wins and losses and without the Jimmies and Joes it is mighty tough in todays high school sports. Malachi pointed out previously that the program simply does not have the "stud" basketball only player/players that are needed to be successful every year. I have said many times that the current style being used does not fit the type of players that are currently in the program. Emphasis should be on defense and minimizing easy looks at the basket and let the defense create opportunities for your offense to score easy baskets.

This year alone I have heard that HHS should fire the boys and girls soccer coaches and the girls basketball coach and we have not even gotten to the spring sports season yet.

Actually, most of the people on here making comments on this thread have seen the product on multiple occassions this season and followed the product for multiple seasons. Some have kids on the team. Others that have commented have kids that have been in the program and decided not to play any longer. Some may, just may, understand it just a little better than you do. But you tend to want to dismiss any view other than your own. I too am done with this thread. Go Birds! Beat Rebels!!
