I think that is the lineup Sully would like, but with their aggressive defense either one or both can get into foul trouble early, hence the rotation begins with Hathorn.

That's what I was thinking also. Sully has already had a starting lineup with Hathorn starting in front of Shelton. Should be interesting which way he goes.

Cooper needs to watch some tapes of Boone County versus Holmes. That is their recipe for a win.

All great points but I will be very interested to see who from Holmes guards Drew Shelton? Frankly he is playing the best out of all of their Bigs. Solid defender, hard nosed rebounder and uses both right and left hands offensively with a nice jump hook. I truly think he has been the unsung hero in the last 4 games which is why he has been inserted into the starting lineup.

 

Holmes is already a great team but Cooper is playing well also and now that McNeil has found his place on the team and the football players are in basketball mode it should be a great game and either team could win.

 

Englemon, Arnold, and Chames are all three capable of playing with a bigger, physical guy. See the Holy Cross game as a perfect example. They had Campbell very frustrated because of how physical they were, especially Arnold.

 

Holmes might not have as much beef as Cooper, but I can promise you that you will be surprised with how physical they are in the post.

 

Hathorn is the one who worries me because of his versatility.

No excuse, the absolute poorest game of the year by Cooper from top to bottom. Cooper just stopped playing after jumping out 15-4 on Clinton Co. Yes their guards did work but there was no effort by Cooper at all, flat out acted like they didn't want to be there but hats off to Clinton Co. for a job well done. However, that is no indication of how Cooper has been playing of late. Again, Holmes is very FAST and ATHLETIC...duh, they always are but don't be fooled into thinking Cooper can't win this game. They have the shooters, probably better IMO to match Holmes and I'm still asking the question of what will Holmes do with the size and defensive skillset of Cooper? Guess I'm alone in that discussion since the only thing being discussed is how FAST Holmes is. Funny thing, during the football playoffs vs. Franklin Co. the only thing I heard was how FAST they were and, well, defense prevailed there too. Guess DEFENSE is JOB #1 in Bball too at Cooper so we will see.

 

Like I said, if the game is slowed down and scored in the 40's or low 50's I'm taking the Jags..

You make good points but I would not call

Maniacci a banger. You have to get the ball up the court and Into a ser in order to feed your bigs. I see Holmes exerting Alot of pressure trying to dictate the speed of the game.

 

Cooper can only win if the Dogs are off shooting IMO.

 

Mcneil and Collins can shoot but with Holmes likely pressuring them hard I think Cooper struggles. Most of Cooper's points will likely be from the FT line.

 

Morgan on Bolden would be a decent matchup.

I do remember that NCC played football that weekend and oh BTW won their game. Wouldn't you think such a small school like NCC 2A would have football players playing basketball, like big school 5A Cooper does?

Comparing rosters for football and basketball at NCC, I see one Sr and one JR who played both. I have no idea how much they contribute to the bball program (no stats on nkysports) but Cooper was out two starters and lost by 2, right???

Neither Franzen or Haas played last night if my memory is correct. NCC biggest downfall against teams like Cooper, Holmes, and Covcath is their lack of depth.

 

Cooper likely beats Newcath if they are at 100% in game one.

The concern that Holmes has is can they take how physical Cooper is". Scott, SK and HC got really physical with the 'dogs guards and they did not respond well. They hung on, but it did take them out of their game. It wasn't inside physical play, it was guards being physical with Bolden and Plamer on and off the ball. Bolden is outsatnding but not a physical kid yet. Holmes by no means is a finesse team (they won't back down), but if you are not physical with them they can get a little frustrated. How the officials call the game (not being critical) and the depth of guards will be a factor against Holmes. Holmes has a tendancy in some games or portions of games to walk the ball up the court, this is not always to their advantage. They need to get the ball to the half court and go. As stated several times, their ability to make shots and then pressure is a real key. If they shoot well they are much more dangerous than most in the 9th.

Come on TOG, you are better than that. You are throwing in Coopers face they didn't win the State Title while NCC did?? Really?? Fact is, it was game one and Cooper didn't have two starters and lost by two. NCC may be a better team but on that night Cooper more than held their own with the roster they played with. There are four "top" teams that can probably beat each other on any given night.

 

I just didn't expect you to compare football outcomes in a State Title game where it was a great accomplishment to get there for any school. Of course people will start to throw out the fact that it's been a while since Cov Cath was in a final and that wouldn't be right either.
