Holmes by 15. Cooper won't be able to match their speed and quickness.

After seeing Cooper get beat by Clinton County even if it were a bad game for Cooper, Holmes is far too quick at the guard position for Cooper to compete with them. The Clinton County guards drove to the basket at will vs. Cooper and those young men were slow compared to the guards at Homes.

If indeed Cooper tries to slow it down, they better hope Holmes has an off night in shooting, as the Holmes press, after each made Holmes basket, will IMVHO will drive Cooper nuts.

Holmes 60-47.

Guess you would know Holmes well have the L the other nite so thanks for the insight....

No excuse, the absolute poorest game of the year by Cooper from top to bottom. Cooper just stopped playing after jumping out 15-4 on Clinton Co. Yes their guards did work but there was no effort by Cooper at all, flat out acted like they didn't want to be there but hats off to Clinton Co. for a job well done. However, that is no indication of how Cooper has been playing of late. Again, Holmes is very FAST and ATHLETIC...duh, they always are but don't be fooled into thinking Cooper can't win this game. They have the shooters, probably better IMO to match Holmes and I'm still asking the question of what will Holmes do with the size and defensive skillset of Cooper? Guess I'm alone in that discussion since the only thing being discussed is how FAST Holmes is. Funny thing, during the football playoffs vs. Franklin Co. the only thing I heard was how FAST they were and, well, defense prevailed there too. Guess DEFENSE is JOB #1 in Bball too at Cooper so we will see.

Like I said, if the game is slowed down and scored in the 40's or low 50's I'm taking the Jags..

I am looking for Cooper to come ready to play. If they do and play with the intensity on defense and control tempo the Jags will have a shot. Playing at Holmes on Friday night will be a tall order. I agree Cooper won't out score Holmes in a running game. Looking for a game in the 50's.

I don't see Cooper getting blown out by anybody based on the way they control tempo and play very good defense. It seems the last couple of games they have started to "play" for four quarters, or at least 3 plus. I was dissapointed in their play versus St Henry but since then they have played much more inspired basketball. IMO, they will show up big time as they seem to really play well against top notch teams. They will be focused to knock off the last of the unbeaten.

They have the shooters, probably better IMO to match Holmes and I'm still asking the question of what will Holmes do with the size and defensive skillset of Cooper?

Cooper's defense for sure is their biggest strength and will slow down Holmes. Can also get them in early foul trouble and bench their top scorers. Cooper does have a deep bench. Cooper size? Yes they have that too. It's one thing to have size and another thing to use it. If Cooper can get a strong inside game going, that would be to their advantage and that's where they will score. I think this game will be close for the first 3 quarters, then Dogs break away with their speed in the 4th.

Priority #1 - take care of the ball. Turnovers become quick points for Holmes and it feeds their intensity.

I've seen both teams and I just really don't see Cooper's size being as big of a factor as some of you believe. The Mars, PA team that Holmes played in FL had a lineup that consisted of a 6'8 big man and nobody else under 6'4, outside of the PG.

If anything is going to beat Holmes it will be the outside shooting of McNeil and Collins.

Chames is athletic, physical, and big enough (6'5) to give Maniacci some problems and as I stated in another thread, outside of games against Holy Cross and Newcath, Englemon will be the best front court player on the floor. Too athletic and strong for any Cooper big man to defend one on one. HIll and Chames are identical at the 5 spot as far as rebounding, size, and athleticism go so foul trouble isn't something that will affect Holmes like it will if Maniacci gets in early foul trouble.

I think where Holmes wins will be their guard play.

Morgan v Bolden

Collins v Palmer

McNeil v Coston

All three are good match ups but if Holmes wants to get in the lane, I don't see it being an issue for any of those three.

Both teams will come out fired up and ready to go. I'm sure Holmes remembers blowing a lead on the road last year and losing to Cooper. Coach Sully is probably getting his team prepared by letting them know they can be the first to knock off the Bulldogs.

I think it's close throughout, but Holmes wins in the end.

Holmes 61

Cooper 54

I agree with you Sixer. Everyone's talking speed speed speed. This isn't track or football where you're racing for the finish line or crossing the goal line. You can be as fast as you want to be, but you still have to get to the basket and score the ball over the bigs. Running around the court showing your speed won't get the job done. Cooper plays very tough defense and that will be a challenge for Holmes no matter how SUPERFAST they are. IMO...Cooper playing their "A" game gets the win here.

Holmes is averaging 69 ppg offensively and giving up 54 ppg.

Cooper is averaging 57 ppg offensively and giving up 44 ppg.

I'd say both teams play pretty good defense. Holmes style of play obviously allows a few more baskets than Cooper's style.

Speed in basketball is much different than football or track as stated. It is their quickness with not only their feet but their hands. Passing lanes have smaller windows against Holmes. You can neutralize their speed somewhat, but you cannot turn it over. The best way to beat the 'dogs is as VOR stated, take the Boone bluprint and be dliberate, take care of the ball, make your free throws and hope they are not hitting from the outside. This team shoots much better than last year's team. There is no better team in the 9th that will make you pay for turnovers. Holmes 2 big guys Chames and Englemon can play and hold their own. Defensive rebounding has been an issue, limiting 2nd shots will be key for them. It would not surprise me one bit if Cooper wins, but all things being equal Holmes is probably better by 5-7 points. That does not leave much margin for error. Holmes can dictate pace if they get a lead by 8-10, easier said than done though.

All great points but I will be very interested to see who from Holmes guards Drew Shelton? Frankly he is playing the best out of all of their Bigs. Solid defender, hard nosed rebounder and uses both right and left hands offensively with a nice jump hook. I truly think he has been the unsung hero in the last 4 games which is why he has been inserted into the starting lineup.

Holmes is already a great team but Cooper is playing well also and now that McNeil has found his place on the team and the football players are in basketball mode it should be a great game and either team could win.

Sixer, what is the main lineup? Lou, Shelton, McNeil, AJ, and Morgan?

I think that is the lineup Sully would like, but with their aggressive defense either one or both can get into foul trouble early, hence the rotation begins with Hathorn.
