I'd pay good money to watch Bolden and Ballard's Q Snyder go at it.

 

I've coached and watched Bolden play over the last 5 years and I've seen Snyder play quite a few games over the summer. As much as I love Beetle and his game, I have to give Snyder the upper hand and I don't think it would be that close. Beetle will get there, but I think Snyder's game is much stronger at this point in time.

Lucky to find a seat tonight and it was a fun game to watch in Park Hills. There seemed to be a lot of impartial fans in attendance from other schools.

 

Ruthsatz does try to do too much, but Holmes has the personnel to wear him down and I think that he was gassed down the stretch. His jumper was short and no lift on drives to the basket. I thought Herndon did a heck of a job on him in the second quarter and made him work the entire floor. Things seem to get a bit testy during a stretch there. Ruthsatz has a good handle but predictable when he is going left he is going to look to pull the trigger. The one piece of his game that I would like to see him lose is the "Duke flop" that he pulls when he drives in trying to entice a foul call. He dribbles to body a defender then acts like he gets shot and flails.

He is too good of a player to do that.

I thought Holmes did a good job of handling the variety of defenses that CCH threw atr them and that is a credit to Bolden for getting them into their offense.

Obviously, Coston was huge in the first half and Palmer played well on defense and knocked down a couple shots as well. I thought Englemon was pretty steady all night.

Schuh is going to be a nice player for CCH as he continues to develop. Frederick was tremendous. Hitting open shots, hitting shots on drives. I thought he carried the Colonels.

Colonels and Indians will be a war as Holy Cross keeps improving.

Lastly, I thought the stripes were pretty solid tonight.

Bolden is getting better with game experience. He still has some work to do on his point guard skills. He is an instinctive ballhandler with outstanding skills to go to the hole. He played his best game tonight turnover wise. He needs to be more cognizant of the 5 second count and could dish a little better. This is nitpicking, I know. He is a very good outside shooter especially off the dribble. I wouldn't say he was an outstanding outside shooter yet. He is a gym rat and will only get better which is scary. he has quick hands and is just learning how to defend. I love watching the kid play, he is special.

I completely agree....how tall is Bolden...will he grow more?

5'11 or 6'0 looks right. Big enough to throw down a nice one-handed dunk in pregame off of two feet .

Schu impressed me also. He needs to get a little meat on his bones and he could be a force. Still needs work on inside game, .

 

So that my NCC friends do not think I only am critical of their guy's low post game let me say you are 100% correct. He has no low post game at this time. Just getting by on athleticism and effort. If and when he works on it he'll be a 20 ppg player. No excuses for him to not come back with a strong jump hook and a few other moves next season.

A couple observations:

 

Holmes can stroke the 3.

CCH needs to work on making their bunnies.

Yes...there were a couple times he'd drive, a defender would cut him off, and he'd jerk his head back as if he got mugged. Luckily, after he did it once and refs called a foul, the coaches pointed it out and it wasn't called the rest of the night.

Be a good match-up but Bolden is not at Q. SNIDER's level.....yet and that is no disrespect to Bolden at all because he is a great player and will continue to get even better. I've been around Q for quite a while and seen Bolden since his MS days and he will well on his way, but that's just my opinion. Both are ultra quick with complete games.

So Booher gets credit in here (deservedly so) for net letting Ruthsatz beat them and forcing other guys to do it, but the Holy Cross fan base blasts coach Goetz for the exact same strategy last year? The HC fan base is funny.

Not sure....James has worked very hard to get to the level he is at right now. While he obviously has god given talent and athleticism, his work ethic is one of the best in the area. Kid is constantly in the gym or at the park working on his game. He simply loves to play basketball and is a competitior. Add in that he is good student as well.

Holmes got a T during halftime of a JV game this year because of him dunking in a shoot around. Booher got mad and Bud looked at him and laughed and said "atleast he is dunking. Couldn't touch rim last year."
