I'm not so sure I believe the Orangello and Lemonjello lines, since it seems like everybody "has a friend who's aunt who was a nurse at this one hospital" seems to tell that one. I've personally heard that one from like 3 or 4 different people at different times. I suppose it's possible and all, but I find that one hard to believe.

 

However...my mom swears that while she was working as a med tech at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati there was a girl born there whose parents named her Crystal Chanda Leer. She was born premature so the parents had not yet figured out the name, and she had a bit of an extended stay in the hospital since she was a premie. She was "baby Leer" for the first couple of days of her life, and then the news came around that the parents decided to name her "Crystal Chanda". I can honestly say that I've never known my mother to tell a single lie, and she would absolutely swear to that one - said she eventually had to go draw blood for some tests and saw the name on the paperwork. For some reason, I think it's more likely that this on could be true...particularly because of my mom's insistence that it it...but also because you can pull off the name Crystal without really raising eyebrows, or even Crystal Leer.

 

I do have a friend who is an OB nurse who has one "creative" name she can't stand, but sees a good 6 or 7 times a year: Neveah (nev-ay-uh)...it's heaven spelled backwards. I've actually known a couple of people to have named their daughters that. Makes me gag a little.

My mother in law is a teacher with JCPS and told me about triplets she had in class: Monique, Unique and Clinique.

Definitely not limited to the 70s. I know someone whose parents gave her the middle name of "Joy." So, naturally, her first name is "Tirzah." Say it out loud once or twice...

Here's the best one I've got for you...and it's true as can be. You can go to the Federal District Courthouse in Covington and look it up, if you care to.

 

I worked as a clerk and paralegal in college at the lawfirm that represents Thomas More College, and I'd guess this case was appealed to the federal level around '03. There was a girl who was suing Thomas More (pro se) for not allowing her to get a math degree when she was unable to pass calculus as was required for the degree. Her claim was that she had a learning disability. Plaintiff's name was Louise Lanzilotta. She lost the case a couple of times locally and at the state level, and decided to appeal to the federal level. In the time that she was going through the pleading process in the courts, she married a gentleman whose last name was "Dicks". For the purpose of keeping the case captions clear, the courts had her hyphenate her maiden and married names on all of the pleadings. So...at the top of every single pleading in the case, you'd see in nice bold print:
