December 26, 201213 yr Episode VII is slated for release in 2015. Pre-production is under way, and Michael Arndt (writer: Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) has been confirmed as the screenwriter for all three episodes, and they have also confirmed that the screenplay will be completely original and based on no prior plots or storylines from the expanded Star Wars universe. Arndt had reportedly been tapped as writer months prior to the Disney/Lucasfilm merger, and has reportedly been working on an initial story line for "several months". At this point he has already turned in a plot outline intended to bring the Skywalker family saga to an end. The trilogy is reported to include Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher as older versions of their characters from episodes IV, V, and VI. There has been little word as of yet on any other storyline details, movie characters, or actors. At last notice, Disney/Lucasfilm allegedly has the director of Star Wars Episode VII down to a couple of candidates. Several rumored directors: Brad Bird (The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol) - Denied. Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) - Denied. David Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Social Network, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) - No official word. Gareth Evans (Monsters) - Denied. Guillermo Del Toro (Blade II, Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy 2) - Has expressed interest. JJ Abrams - (Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek, Super 8) - Approached, and declined. Joe Johnston (Honey I Shrunk the Kids, The Rocketeer, Jumanji, The Wolfman, Captain America: The First Avenger) - Has expressed interest. Jon Favreau (Made, Elf, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Cowboys & Aliens) - Has denied some rumors, only to reply later by saying he is "panting after" the job. Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, X-Men: First Class) - No official word, although he has now dropped out of the newest X-Men movie. Mike Newell (Donnie Brasco, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Love in the Time of Cholera, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time) - Denied. Quentin Tarantino (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained)- Denied. Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Road to Perdition, Jarhead, Away We Go, Skyfall) - Denied. December 26, 201213 yr I'd love to see Fincher. QT would be nice but I'd rather he do original work versus being tied up for that long.
December 27, 201213 yr Author I'd love to see Fincher. QT would be nice but I'd rather he do original work versus being tied up for that long. I think Fincher would be a really interesting choice to direct...but I think Guillermo Del Toro would be a pretty good choice as well. I've got a funny feeling it's going to end up being Matthew Vaughn, though.
December 27, 201213 yr I'd love to see Fincher. QT would be nice but I'd rather he do original work versus being tied up for that long. QT would be terrible for this franchise. As a big Star Wars fan, I would be scared to death to see what it would look like with him in control.
December 27, 201213 yr Looks like JJ Abrams turned it down: J.J. Abrams turned down 'Star Wars' - CNN.com
December 27, 201213 yr The two best choices, in my mind, are currently committed to two pretty large franchises and so are unavailable. JJ Abrams is committed to Star Trek for I'm not sure how many more films and Joss Whedon is committed to at least one and probably two more Avengers films. Those are true science fiction guys that love the franchise and would be excellent stewards. Really a shame they're both contracted for other things.
January 8, 201313 yr Author Guillermo Del Toro just announced that he's attached to an upcoming project for Warner Brothers featuring the DC Comics "Justice League Dark" storyline. Sounds like that puts him out of contention for a Star Wars movie. Guillermo Del Toro Confirms Work on Justice League Dark Film :: News :: Paste
January 8, 201313 yr I'm sure I will watch them, but I have to watch Episode 1- 3 first haha! **Sigh**
January 8, 201313 yr None of the directors in question can do worse than Lucas did in the last 15 years.
January 9, 201313 yr I am just glad the stories are all new and not from any of the expanded universe crap or novels that have been published over the years.
January 25, 201313 yr Author Well now there are unofficial reports that JJ Abrams IS directing the next Star Wars movie. J.J. Abrams Set to Direct Next 'Star Wars' Film | The Wrap Movies J.J. Abrams to Direct Next 'Star Wars' Movie - NYTimes.com
