January 25, 201313 yr I am just glad the stories are all new and not from any of the expanded universe crap or novels that have been published over the years. Right, because the stuff involving Grand Admiral Thrawn was so poorly written compared to Lucas' opus in Episodes I-III.

In fact I can think of a number of better reactions to those three films than I have. :lol:

Meh. I understand why a lot of people REALLY into Star Trek didn't really like what he did with the franchise but I don't agree with them. I guess I also understand why people are concerned that the two truly iconic sci-fi franchises are in the hand of one man but, again, I don't agree with them. The guy made LOST which is, to my mind, the best science fiction television show of the last decade (yeah, Battlestar Galactica, I said it, you shouldn't have been so darned serious all the time) and managed to do so on major network television. I really enjoyed his first venture into Star Trek and truly believe that Disney + JJ = enjoyable movie experience. I think it'll be really fun even if the fanboys aren't thrilled with what happens.

I will disagree with that and say Firefly even though it only got one season because Fox is run by a bunch of stupid howler monkeys. I would have preferred Joss Whedon here but I can live with Abrams, I felt his casting in Star Trek was stellar even if the story was mediocre. This has a much brighter light at the end of the tunnel than Lucas doing it. Although it could just be the train coming down to plow through what little dignity the franchise once had. Either way it will be interesting.

Considering all the ridiculous arguments the two have had with each other over the years this really ought to be hilarious. Having been a fanboy of both franchises to an extent in my life it definitely makes for an interesting facebook read whenever this news pops up.

Had to look it up just now. Had that pegged for 2000 or 2001. Didn't realize it was within the last decade; I also didn't see it until it was already off the air. So. Very. Good.

Right, because the stuff involving Grand Admiral Thrawn was so poorly written compared to Lucas' opus in Episodes I-III. My point wasn't a shot at any of the expanded universe stuff, I just want fresh new story line. One thing that hurt the I II and III was you knew so much back story there were really few surprises and you just sat there waiting for what you knew had to happen based on the story lines from IV V and VI. I'm really looking forward to going to see these new ones with no real idea of what is going to happen or who may or not be involved. I just don't want these stories tied down to preconceived story line the way the prequels were.
