December 12, 201213 yr Author As far as seeing LH relivers, I'd say bring it on. Now with a possible (LH, RH, LH, RH, LH) lineup managers will have to use their relievers more instead of being able to simply save a lefty to face Votto and Bruce they will also have Choo to consider as well. I love it. Think about this....We're digging down to "Choo isn't very good against LH relievers" to find something to complain about the trade for. When you gotta go that deep, you know it's a good deal.
December 12, 201213 yr I have mixed emotions on the deal. Obviously I don't mind giving up Gregorious or Stubbs, but I'm not so sure why the Reds targeted Choo. Choo is below-average defensively, so I have some concerns about asking him to play CF. I'd be inclined to move Bruce to CF, but if Choo is truly just a bridge to Hamilton, there's no sense in moving Bruce for one season only. So, Choo likely winds up in CF. My concerns re: Choo are two-fold: he's obviously an improvement offensively, but he also struck out 150 times last year. More importantly, Choo batted under .200 last year against left-handed pitching. All in all, I think that I like the move & I think it improves the ballclub. I'm just a bit surprised that Choo was the guy they decided to trade for, given his inability to play CF. I'm kind of with you on this CC. I don't mind trading Stubbs, although Stubbs only struck out just about 12-15 more times than Choo last year. Plus I think both were close on stolen bases for 2012. What does stick out is the OBP, Choo .373 to Stubbs .277.
December 12, 201213 yr Let's hear a better realistic option that they could have got for nothing (because that's what they gave up). I wonder what they offered for Denard Span and/or Ben Revere. I'm sure Minnesota wanted pitching, so if the Reds weren't willing to part with pitching, that's fine. Choo is a better hitter than both of the aforementioned. I just find it odd that we acquired another left handed bat that doesn't play much CF. *Not complaining at all, because the thought of Choo & BP 1-2 in the lineup excites me.
December 13, 201213 yr Hamilton will be there is 2014. Good trade and he will get on base for the boppers. Late in the game we will have Heisey to pinch hit and give us better late defense.

December 13, 201213 yr Maybe they flip-flop BP and Choo at 1 & 2 occasionally v. LH starters. Don't love BP in the #2 hole, but he has proven he will hit where needed in the lineup. If he needs to hit behind the runner, bunt, take a few pitches, etc. in the #2 hole and that costs him a few points on his avg., I'm confident he recognizes it is for the good of the team. Don't forget the $3.5MM they are also getting. That's 1/2 a year for Ludwick, etc.

December 14, 201213 yr Phillips is best suited for the 2 hole than any other place in the lineup...Actually, he's probably best suited for sixth in the order ...
December 15, 201213 yr So glad to see upgrades in center, and on the bench. If Chapman succeeds as a starter and Arroyo can come up with one more solid year we'll be hard to beat. Hopefully Grandpa Rolen retires so we don't have drama.
February 21, 201313 yr Listening to Jim Bowden yesterday on the radio. He states that Choo in center is a stretch if not a liability. He said he would not be surprised to see Bruce in center and Choo in right. Thoughts?

I'd prefer Bruce in CF for this year, but I don't think the Reds will move him to CF for one season then back to RF next...
