February 21, 201313 yr Author Listening to Jim Bowden yesterday on the radio. He states that Choo in center is a stretch if not a liability. He said he would not be surprised to see Bruce in center and Choo in right. Thoughts? I think old leatherpants is an idiot, but I don't see it being an issue. Against lefties, Heisey will be in center, so that takes care of roughly 20-30% of the games. I doubt the gap between Choo and Bruce in CF would be that drastic that it would cause them to flip Bruce to CF, only to move him back to RF next season.
February 21, 201313 yr It's funny every time I see someone hitting the panic button on Choo in CF I see Bowden's name attached to the article or tweet.
February 21, 201313 yr I am glad someone brought this thread back up. Has anyone seen what Cleveland has said about CF now that they have signed Bourne? Is Stubbs out of a job up there before spring training even starts? As to CF with Choo or Bruce, for half the games it isn't that big a deal because GABP is not that big a park. Honestly, I never thought Stubbs was that great in CF but all the supposed experts did so I defer to them. Bottom line, even if we struggle a little on defense, the trade off in offense should make this a plus deal for the Reds.
February 21, 201313 yr I'd take the offensive lineup that the Reds will put out with Choo in it and take the liability in CF, over what the Reds had last year. Having a really good defensive outfield is sometimes over analyzed IMO.

Having a really good defensive outfield is sometimes over analyzed IMO. Give me the guy who can make the routine plays in the field and HIT over the guy who is a great defensive player and strikes out as much as Stubbs. Not a hard choice at all. It would be nice to see Votto hit with some people on base more this year.
February 22, 201313 yr I bet you that Stubbs was a bigger liability at the plate than Choo is in the field. 81 games in a small home park won't hurt him a bit.
