December 9, 201213 yr It's a good safe hire for UC. It may look like an opportunity for some stability and if that is the case then that is good for the program. As for UK, I think they were just looking for someone younger and who brought some energy and life to the program. Petrino's name is surfacing at WKU.
December 9, 201213 yr Petrino was the topic of a lot of conversation in my 8 plus hours on the UC campus today. Obviously if he can get a head coaching job, that would be the priority. Apparently he and Tuberville go back a while, and while the situation at Auburn was ugly they are still pretty close. That said I have some doubts UC would take the chance even as an OC. With the Arkansas situation still so fresh it is likely the hire would go as far up the food chain as needing BOT approval. Don't see that happening from some things I heard today... If this is talked about what are his salary requirements for that position? I would have to think that with his experience he wouldnt come cheap, and I don't know of UC could afford Petrino as OC. It would be nice to have him on the sidelines but I think this is completely out of the question. They said they wanted guys who want to be here and I think Petrino would split rather quickly to get a HC job. I know he has character issues but someone will give him the opportunity.

Totally agree, UK wanted the guy who has a lot to prove. Tub peaked years ago but will still get them to bowl games.
December 9, 201213 yr Are the people who criticized Jones for job shopping going to criticize Tubberville just the same?

December 9, 201213 yr I go back again to what a win this was for Babcock and UC. I had not heard Tuberville's name mentioned anywhere as even being considered for openings. Babcock turned the deal in one day. How many other AD's are scratching their heads asking why they didn't even think of calling Tuberville? UK or UT should have been all over him and at least considered him. How many other coaches are out there with success as a head coach in the SEC on their resume? Is there anything in college better to have on your resume than success in the SEC? The guy beat Alabama 6 years in a row. I still today 24 hours later am just shaking my head in amazement at how good this was for UC and Babcock. And I do believe this could go further than another 3 year head coaching run. Tuberville is 61 in 3 years. At that point he is getting to an age that the big boys don't want to invest 6 years in him as a new coach. I could see a Rich Brooks like run for Tuberville at UC with him coaching for 8-10 years and then retiring.
December 9, 201213 yr I have always put Tuberville in the Phillip Fulmer / Tubby Smith category of coaches.
December 10, 201213 yr I have always put Tuberville in the Phillip Fulmer / Tubby Smith category of coaches. Another good example, there's a reason Tuberville couldn't get any other gigs, yet he's plenty for UC's need.
December 10, 201213 yr I have always put Tuberville in the Phillip Fulmer / Tubby Smith category of coaches. OK, I'll admit it. I'm not the brightest pixel in the jumbo-tron. I don't see the connection between those three.

Have to agree, I was really impressed with the way Babcock handled this situation start to finish. Dude earned his keep.
