Tommy Tuberville to UC

Featured Replies

It was a recruit, not anyone from TT. As far as I know the other recruits and coaches there have not said anything publicly confirming or denying it took place.

Another recruit that was at the dinner spoke to my site...

BearcatLair.com contacted Sunny Odogwu from Hargrave Military Academy on Wednesday night to do what others had evidently neglected to do. Odogwu has since signed with Miami, Florida but remembers the night in question quite well.

“I remember that night,” said the 6-foot-8/300 pounder. “I’m surprised that story got so popular because I remember talking to Coach Tuberville after my dinner. He left after the dinner. As I recall, he was there as I was eating. He talked to me about coaching Ray Lewis and showed me some pictures that night, and he tapped me on my back as he was leaving the dinner. That man is innocent of this. He was there that night. It wasn’t like he just disappeared.”

I wouldn't want to pay for this kid's dinner, either.

Tommy T is catching a lot of grief since his start at UC. Now there is a he said/she said going on between a coach from Massilon and UC. The coach has said UC is not welcome on Massilon's campus.

Kid is a 4.4 student interested in UC's engineering. He and/or his coach claim UC pulled the offer. I think UC says (GT will give details) that the kid said he wanted to look elsewhere.

Seems like a pretty easy case to solve. Ask the kid if he wants out of UC.

They asked him if he was 100% or if he wanted to keep looking around. At that point he still thought a UT offer was coming and wanted to stay as a UC "commit" but continue to look around. Kempt was given the chance to keep his spot, but not as a placeholder. When he told UC he was going to listen to others they filled the spot with a kid that was 100%. They tried to hedge their bets and lost on both sides...

I threw out there a few weeks back the issue that came up with the kid from Colerain who decommitted. He has told people they didn't call and was mad about it or was at the very least tardy with their contact. GT said that the assistant called upon getting hired.

No Weissman said Eddie Gran called upon getting hired. It wasn't something I heard, it was a direct quote from the kid...

Too many kids making the same claim for it to not be somewhat, if not completely, true.

From some digging it sounds like the disconnect is making contact with the high school coaches instead of directly with the recruits/families when the initial calls were made. Every recruit was contacted in some fashion within two weeks of the hire. Some were placed on the priority list and others were told the staff would evaluate once they arrived on campus. No coincidence that the problems are coming from kids on the defensive side of the ball either. Those guys didn't start at UC until January 3rd after they completed their work at Texas Tech for the bowl game and got a few days off with their families to pack and head out.

All in all comes down to the fact that the system is seriously broken, but the NCAA seems disinterested in fixing it. Should have been handled better by Tuberville and the 3 guys that joined him early on the offensive side, but hindsight is 20/20 there...
