Should Jonathan Jackson win Mr. Kentucky Football

Featured Replies

If they gave the award for the best player on Mayfields team then Jackson wins easily. If you are starting a team from scratch you take the best player available and that player would be Quick. Jackson is great...but the fact is that he is not fast and dominates against a Class A schedule.

Answer my question. Take Jackson off Mayfield, do they win 1A? Does Trinity win 6A without Quick?

My answer to both questions is yes. Mayfield was winning long before Jackson showed up. Same with Quick and Trinity.

Winner will go to Quick or Timmons as well it should, with Jackson 3rd. All great players.

Dominated is a strong concept for a wide receiver.

Watch Trinity v Elder 2011. Watch Trinity v Cathedral 2012. Watch every game that you can. He didn't face one weak team until districts each year. Yet, he made the play every game. Mayfields toughest game was who? Warren Central? It isn't comparable. JJ is a beast. Nobody debates the kid is extremely talented. Quick is special.

Not sure where you got your information, but Jonathan Jackson is plenty fast, not world class speed, but his game speed is something to behold.

I think Quick should win Mr. Football. Because I think Quick is the best football player in the state. However, the argument of who was more important to his team is silly. Quick went down, Trinity still won. You see what happened last year in the championship game with JJ was only about 60% from the knee issue the week before and they lost. Remove JJ and this team has no shot at a title. While I think Quick is Mr. Football, I think JJ is the most VALUABLE player in the Commonwealth.

The past doesn't matter. What we're talking about is the 2012 season.

IMO Mayfield doesn't win without Jackson.

The only team that might have beaten them would be Beechwood and they was 21 pts better with him. I think they find a way to squeak it out without him.

Look at some of the past winners, the award doesn't always go to the "so called best prospect".

I actually argued this point the year Atwell won and I said Shane Boyd should win because I thought he was the "best prospect". However , Atwell had incredible numbers and won.

Is Quick a better player or just the best wide receiver in the state? Put Quick on Mayfield's team and take away Jackson and I bet you don't see a state champion or a team that could compete with 95% of all teams in the state.

Quick can play defense...we just didn't need him to....that being said if Quick was on Mayfield's team....you can rest assured his numbers would have been extraordinary, and they likely would have won state as well.
IMO Mayfield doesn't win without Jackson.

WHO CARES?

We probably don't win without Hatcher.....or White....or Daylen.......should they all get consideration?

This isn't an MVP award. To me Mr. Football should go to the best football player in the state. Since it is limited to seniors I think the whole career has to be considered. It has to be James Quick.

If you went by accomplishments, Jackson would be your Mr. Football. QUick is a better reciever, Jackson is a better LB and RB. Quick is a better college prospect and if that is part of a voters consideration then Quick should win in a landslide. Jackson played without the benefit of alot of other star players and against a very good schedule (Mayfield schedules only larger schools out of district) for any small school which made forced Mayfield to have to lean on him more than T did with Quick, atleast in the games I saw. A hurt Jackson cost Mayfield the title last year, which shows what a difference he nmade for the Cards. I will post Jackson accomplishments later when I have time to look them up and they are staggering. I started the thread, am obviously biased. I have had the privledge of seeing Jackson 53 times and Quick 3. I must add that I have no idea about Timmons, I have never seen him play or followed him.

Jackson deserves every accolade that he earns. I just look at Quick's numbers and who he did it against and it is unreal.

If Quick wins it, he should give some portion of the award to QB Travis Wright.

How so? I don't agree at all.
