2017 Prospect QB Tanner Morgan at Ryle

After the offer, when they come to a game it is more for recruiting than evaluation.

Correct. Ex: Barker is still waiting on Ohio State. They didn't tell him they would come see him play and then decide. They told him they'd watch film and make a decision. This, of course, came after he was in front of them 5 times.

SC came up to watch him. Not to decide if they wanted him. They had already offered after he came to Columbia and worked out for them. They were they to be seen and to help show Drew how much they want him.

Camps and combines are a far bigger part of recruiting than you think. Clearly, you are the one who doesn't know much about recruiting. Camps and combines are how kids get initial exposure. If I am not I mistaken Drew Barker from Conner received multiple offers based upon his camps performance. Many of his offers came before the schools even saw him in game action. The and like double deuce mentioned, trinity backup has offers without playing in a game.

I am sure Trinity's back-up qb has never been in a game.

He got his offer from his showings at camps.

I agree, Gorilla is a little naive. No big time schools assess the athletes at high school games anymore. Every big time athlete in ALL sports are evaluated in their off season (mostly summer). It's much easier to evaluate kids against other kids at their level. High school sports are not competitive enough (talent wise top to bottom) for recruiters to make fair evaluations. They must see them against kids that have the same talent.

Yes, he was both the 8th grade and Frosh qb this year.

DD, thanks for the information and I am even more into Racke and Vonhandorf than before, as I have seen the Morgan kid play twice then and while he is good he doesn't throw the ball with the zip or accuracy of either of the other two IMO!

Gorilla, you may not think camps and combines are a good evaluation tool because the kids aren't in "pads" etc. But they are a huge help. they not only allow recruiters to see the kids and how well they perform against their peers, but if they can't perform well at a combine or camps they sure in heck won't succeed with their "pads" on the majority of the time.

These camps and combines aren't set up by people who have no clue what they are looking at. Take the QB position as an example. If the QB can't make the throws needed to at these combines then how in the world do you expect them to in a real game with added pressure on them?

I don't thik the recruiters have screwed up a ton or they woulnhd't be in the position to recruit players in the first place (unless you work for the Cincinnati Bengals)

There are more college personnel at one camp or combine than you will see at any friday night game on any given week. Do you thik when SC sent folks to Hebron this year they were accompanied by a dozen other colleges at the same game? No. But just like Baseball showcases, there are always a lot of colleges who attend the major combines etc.

Since you seem familiar with Ryle's team etc. Do me a favor and talk to #78's parents. He was getting a ton of serious looks by a ton of D1 and other schools as early as last year when he was a sophomore, and he wasn't even starting at the time. The reason? He attended a lot of camps and combines his freshman and sophomore year and got a lot of looks. He is going to be a great one at the next level, but he didn't get noticed because of what he did on Friday Nights last year, he got noticed at the camps etc. long before he became a starter.

I had Tanner on my youth team he's one of the best QB prospects I've ever seen. I didn't put him name on here a few year ago due to his age but he's Hempel at worst.

Not even close in the 8th grade.

Not a knock on Morgan he is a good football player.

I just want to say good luck to Tanner and keeping working hard. I hope everything works out for you and you achieve all the goals you have set out for yourself!!!!

1. He is the back-up, do you really think a D1 school came to a game to watch the back-up get in at the end of the game? No. He was on the radar due to his camp performance and off-season activity.

2. Colleges only come to high school games to "show interest" not to evaluate if a player is good enough for their school. They come to games to let the recruit know they are interested, they have already decided if they are interested.

3. Colleges do not have enough time to evaluate during the high school season, because the college is concerned about the college season. That is why they evaluate in the off season.

4. Yes, college evaluate film, more to see mechanics and athleticism, not real game performance. The competition is too unpredictable. Colleges are more concerned about body type, foot work, and position then game performance because college coaches know they can develop a person into a player, but can not develop a 5'8" guy into a 6'5" guy.

Before any Division 1 school signs a high school quarterback, they will have certainly seen film on him in competition or been to a game. That is the one position they cannot get wrong. They may offer at a camp but that offer only holds up if they perform at a high level on friday night which most likely they have already seen.

Not really. Most college coaches will tell you that the first position they look for when recruiting is, Left Tackle. Followed by, Defensive Tackle. Then they look for a Quarterback.

Gorilla, you need to get out a little more and communicate with people that have actually sent kids on to the next DI level. Friday nights are for creating film to gain an interest from college recruiters. Many DI recruiters want to see the athlete in person and watch them perform at their camps and meet their standards which are usually higher than most Friday night competitions

I meant he's Hempel his senior year at worst.

I would take Racke! :D

The future Colonel?

Lets see Racke has already played Freshmen Football and the Morgan kid?

Vonhandorf is good enough to be playing varsity basketball this season for VMA and the Morgan Kid?

Seems like the other two kids will have a ton more HS experience than Morgan has and you know that Morgan will out work them, out study them and out perform them, how?

So this young man is a QB prospect playing varsity bball at Villa. Obviously he will be going to a different high school in he plans on playing football.
