Watched this kid play against Beechwood a couple of weeks ago. He struggled in that game and looked small in stature to me. Arm strength was average. I don't think he is ready for Friday nights. Best of luck to this young man.

I stumbled across this article about 8th grade 2017 class QB Tanner Morgan.

What can people tell me about him? Will he start as a frosh on the varsity at Ryle?

Kentucky 8th Grade Quarterback Tanner Morgan Training to be the Best in the Country - Youth 1

One of the very interesting decisions on Coach Warner's plate next year. Stick with the status quo of Senior Nathan Davis, or move on with Tanner Morgan. Even Morgan gives Ryle more of a down field threat than Davis. Supported by a solid running game, I can see Morgan doing well, even at the varsity level.

I thought Davis was gone?

RE, you are correct Davis is a senior. I don't think continuing in the Hauck offenes is going to be an option. Givin Ryle's success at the JV and Freshman levels, expectation will be elevated. Time for that middle school program to produce!

Will Morgan stay at Ryle considering the lack of pass utilization? Not sure that is a good offense to showcase a QB with throwing skills. Would Morgan be considered a dual threat or a pocket passer?

I believe, but not entirely sure, that Morgan has strong ties to Ryle. I believe his father is on staff and that he may be a coach in the middle school program. BW might be a possibility, but the field of incoming freshmen qbs at Cov Cath is crowded.

It was good enough to showcase for Conner Hempel who received four full Division 1 scholarship offers- (Miami, OH, Western Kentucky, Toledo, and Bowling Green University) before choosing Harvard where he is competing for playing time as a true sophomore. Tanner Morgan breathes Ryle Raider Football and he will be showcased well. He will have a number of good receivers compared to what Conner Hempel was able to work with. Not that they weren't good football players but the starting two receivers for Ryle when Conner was a senior were both 5'7" and 5'5". Tanner will be working with four to five players all over 6'1". Tanner Morgan's brother was a captain for the football team this past season at offensive guard- he breathes Ryle Football as well. Actually, the whole family does.

Well aware of the Conner Hempel story. I see where thru 10 games this season, Ryle had 92 pass attempts. That's less than 10/game. Glad he has strong ties to the program. Those passing numbers would be a concern if it were me, but it's not me. Best of luck. Will look forward to seeing this young man on Friday Nights.

I know Ryle had a great frosh season and had a strong frosh team last year. Did they have success at JV this year? The one JV game I know of they were completely non-competitive.

As a general statement, any team that needs to start a frosh at QB will struggle. Throwing a 14 year old boy in against varsity competition is a bit overzealous. It would make for a great storyline to have him start as a freshmen but may not be in his best long term development.

If you are a strong running team with a good defense, you can bring a young qb along slowly. You can also design plays so that the completions are easy, and every so often, take a shot deep down field. The thing you cannot do is have a younq qb passing, when the defense expects pass. You can't ask a young qb to win games for you.

Those came about due to his summer camps. Ryle's offense does not do much to prepare a QB for college football. Some high schools do. Some do not.

This is a classic case of a young man getting press through self promotion in today's Internet age. One of the best in the country? Please- not even the best 8th grade QB in northern ky. Maybe 3rd best in N Ky in fact. Give me Vonhandorf first and the Racke kid second.

Kid has a good arm and knows the game but Dad (who coaches in the Union system) is as much responsible for the hype as anything.

This is easy. Bring the kid along slowly. With Ryle's schedule, he will not be ready for 6A varsity football as a freshman. Let him physically develop another couple of years and get him ready to QB his sophomore season. Move him up one level to JV and see how he does next year.
