Okay, now I am going to give you facts that I know about the scrimmage with Trinity. About 2 weeks before the contest, the Ft. Thomas Schools website announced the time of the game with Trinity and that it would cost $ 6 for adults and $ 4 for students which would be okay based upon what you stated. The announcement went on to state that passes would also be accepted, so I purchased a family pass at the HHS Bookstore which gets me and my family in to all sporting events at Highlands. I can tell you that the announcement made no mention of this game being a part of the Potter Classic nor was there any indication (signs, collection bucket, etc.) at the gate when I arrived.

 

Given all of these facts, I can tell you with all honesty that I was not aware at any time that this scrimmage with Trinity was associated with the Potter Classic in any way shape or form. I also do not remember reading anything on this very website mentioning that this game was a part of the Classic.

 

It is for many of these very reasons that Fort Thomas faithful have a hard time buying that HHS made some sort of financial commitment to the fund. My money went to the school via a check for my passes, so no money went into the till for the scholarship fund. It would appear on the surface that there was some sort of misunderstanding between all of the parties involved, but I know for a fact this had absolutely nothing to do with Ryle's decision to cancel this game.

 

As I said earlier, each team will find an opponent to fill out there schedule and a week from now all of this will have been forgotten. Good luck to the Raiders and the Birds this week as they begin their quest for a championship.

 

Boy I saw this coming a mile away based on your line of questioning. Kind of saw the "nobody at Highlands knew it was part of the Tom Potter" as soon as you asked about the buckets and passes and such. As an outside observer and knowing nothing about the situation at hand this is interesting reading but you are 100% correct in that it has nothing to do with the game or lack of game. I think it was a chance to try to make Dale look bad much as some (not all) posters were trying to question Coach Warner's ethics for "backing out of a game." I think some posters came at Coach Warner way too strong in attacking him. If a contract is not signed he has the right to do what is best for his program. Lets face it the man stepped up and played Highlands not once but twice a year. There is nothing that says you have to play Highlands unless you sign a contract that says so.

 

One poster mentioned Dale told him that Warner backed out of the game..........My opinion is why make this public if you are Dale? Replace the game then release your new schedule. Mouths quiet..........................

 

As far as the Tom Potter Classic I have no clue what happened but the bottom line based on this thread is somebody including coaches thought the Highlands game was part of it. Highlands it looks like never thought that or some advertisement or knowledge would have been floating around out there.

So let's dig into that. Were there previous discussions with the association regarding HHS' support with regards to an understanding that other NKY teams would play them in the future?? Were there discussions if HHS' money was down, they could back out? What were the terms of the deal? Committments from each team? Did the association commit to money, assuming HHS was "in"? Was it HHS commiting to the fund or the association that HHS is a part of and Dale decided that he couldn't afford to pay his share this year because his dollars are down. Like you said, people change their mind!

 

If I am running a football team in this economy, I'm sure I have to watch the dollars. If Dale has tried to get teams to play him from NKY without success and no cooperation, then that forces him to do other things to fill his schedule. That means that he has to travel to play teams that will play him. That is very expensive. And it cuts down on his revenue when teams travel here because teams don't bring as many fans as a local team would. Times that by 10 games and that's a huge hit to a program. I don't think people understand what kind of impact it has on HHS when no one local will play them.

 

If I face a decision in my personal life to pay an electric bill or give to charity, I know where my money is going! I may have committed to the charity, but at the end of the day when I sit down to count my money, the money just doesn't add up. That means that I will pay the electric bill and take care of my family. Contrary to MOST beliefs, HHS gets very little state money for funding, compared to other state schools. Yes, boosters step in and help on occasions. But it is the coaches responsibility to make sure they do their best to stay on budget. Booster money is a luxery and not guaranteed.

 

At the end of the day, when you don't have the same income that you felt you would have, you have to prioritize what you pay. This is what this is starting to sound like.

 

Does it stink for the association that they can't give the same amount of money or scholarships? Yes...but mama always taught me to look out for number 1 because noone else will!

What does that matter? Dale made the committment to the association and the Potter fund, then he reneged on it during the last meeting. Whether Highlands had the bucket or signs out for donations during the scrimmage makes 0 difference as to whether or not the gate was pledged prior to the season. It was. He didn't make as much as he usually does at his gate this season and chose to keep the money for the program. It is what it is and it isn't pretty. The quest for a spin on the situation is comical.

Shouldn't there be a particpation agreement for this Tom Carter Classic series? Seems to me that there would be some form of agreement for participation in this "Tom Potter Classic" as well. If not, shame on the organizers. Bet nothing was signed for that either. Honestly, I have never even heard of this "classic". How do you know they have one of the biggest gates? Go to a game. Stands are half full except for Cov Cath and Elder. No one else comes from other schools. You have the HHS side and the other side looks like a freshman girls bball game (parents only). AND because they can't find anyone to play them around here, they also have the largest bill to pay!! It doesn't matter how much you bring in if your outgoing is larger!

 

And yes, not understanding the commitment level or agreement that was given by him and the school, I would absolutely support him doing what's best for his program and his kids first. Any coach would.

You are wrong. Dale knew very much about it. No one in the association ever thought that it would require a signature to have coaches uphold their promise to a scholarship fund. Once again, the hypocrasy hold no bounds. Dale DID intend to participate in the event, and made it clear in the meetings. He did not say when he was keeping the money that there was any misunderstanding, he said he didn't make enough money this year and was keeping the Potter gate due to a lack of gate from NKY competition.

Fact? I said I had never heard of this "Classic". I did not say anything negative about RHS. Ryle participates right? Do they not need to find someone that can generate a larger gate? So they can fund the scholarship?

 

Don't believe I directed anything toward you or your Camels. Looking forward to that game next year though.
