Football boosters, sideline club, and other avenues of that nature are what help them "engage in indulgences". Gate receipts are vital to every sports program. Track, Cross Country, Softball, Golf, etc... would not be able to exist if it wasn't for football and in most cases, basketball gates. Highlands does a great job of keeping their pay to play fees as low as possible. So if he did keep the gate receipts from the Trinity scrimmage, he did it to benefit all the student/athletes at Highlands, not just the football players.

This thread has nothing to do with what our motivation is. This was about why Ryle dropped HHS and somehow we are on why HHS take charter buses to games. Charter buses that the kids and families pay for. If I were paying for them and the team were able to rent them, why rent yellow buses. And why do you care????

 

And if our only motivation was to improve game receipts, then we'd wouldn't be trying to schedule Ryle. It would be the GCL and other big names.

 

Going back to your points, by discussing the fact that NKY teams won't play them was not a matter of trying to make money, its that HHS is losing money. If Ryle plays Conner, Boone, Cooper, Dixie, SK, Camp Co, Beechwood, NCC, etc, etc., Aren't they actually making more money than when HHS plays Boyle, Scott co, Pendelton, Harrison, Mason Co and any other school that has to travel to play us. And outside of Boyle, hardly ANY fans attended. So in reality, Ryle is making way more off their gate by playing local teams than HHS does. And they don't have the travel expense that HHS to return the favor of playing at the other team's field the next year! So I'd say Dale has a pretty good argument there!

Have you seen any of our facilities? We don't get the luxery of having a budget like Ryle, Scott, Camp Co, Dixie, SK or any of the other County schools. We don't get things handed to us by the state. Anything that we have are off donations or boosters. Who paid for ALL of the new and beautiful facilities that are mentioned above. Not just football fields! All of those schools have a beatiful campus full of amenities! Our softball plays in a hole that the football team practices on. The gym is a cracker box! Our football field is squished behind our school. Our soccer, track, tennis, baseball, swimming, golf all play off campus at either city fields or private venues that are dontated. We make it work with barely any help from the state. Same with Ryle right???? Oh no, all your fields and venues are on site on a beautiful campus. Please don't talk about our facilities and twisted priorities. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Again kids don't go to Highlands for the facilities, perhaps the front page of today's paper might again explain that both Highlands and Beechwood are top school districts and why parents opt to send students or move in district. Forget the buses, weight rooms, I think every parent wants their kids to have a quality education! Off topic anyhow, I lost a lot of respect for the Ryle program. I hope the program rights the ship, finds a new captain and again continues the series. Most HHS folks are very glad that the Blueboys are playing much better ball, and the emergence of a few NKY 5a programs. Truly I would love for NKY to one day capture a title in each of its classes.

The financial analysis of the # of charter buses needed v. # of yellow buses needed for a typical trip (whether to CovCath or Bowling Green) has been done. As you are aware, charter buses have storage areas. Yellow buses do not. Given the amount of equipment needed for football trips, it can easily be 1 or 2 more yellow buses needed for each trip (depending on roster size). Even if the price per bus is significant, once you add in 1 or 2 more buses, the difference is small or nothing.

 

The typical "knee jerk" reaction of "Here come the rich kids in their charter buses" is facile and uninformed. You now have additional facts at your disposal. If you choose to ignore them, that makes you ignorant (note the root of the word.)

You're not going to believe what I saw last night...there were two charter buses parked in front of Highlands last night. So either Highlands is going WAY overboard now and picking up their players at home in charter buses and bringing them to school OR other schools actually rent charter buses too!

Ft. Thomas simply needs to take a tiny portion of the gigantic amounts of city tax dollars and install a giant mirror in front of Dale Mueller field. People dont want to play Highlands because they are who they are. Same as Lexington schools will not play Lexington Catholic. That is why Ryle dropped Highlands. Now if people want to continue discussions about buses or facilities, continue on. Highlands faithful can moan all they want. Take a page out of T's book, play teams from Tennessee and Indiana....and not on just years you think you can win.
