Okay then we are really only talking about the Ryle game and Holmes game! Next, I'd ask what your definition is of a "long trip"? It takes HHS 45 minutes by bus to get to Ryle. Is that long enough? Maybe not. But I'd say it only takes about an hour to get to Scott Co and I bet there's a different perception, by your standards, if they they were playing at SC vs Ryle. Was it okay if SC to take charter buses to HHS to play them this year? When there is only a few dollars difference, it makes no sense to debate it to the end of the earth. If you're so sure they could do it better, then put a proposal out there on the analysis you've done to prove what you're saying is true and I'll take it to them. I know, you'll say "I'm not going to do that because I'm don't care about HHS". Well it sure feels like you care about their decisions and how they are spending THEIR money!

 

In the end, you're complaining about HHS taking two local trips in charter buses. Don't you have better things to worry about? The HHS people have been on here and told you how and why they chose to take the charter buses, but you want to take it to at rat hole. At a certain point when making decisions, you're splitting hairs. Once you get to that point, it's sometimes costing you more time and effort to iron out so many little details and analysis, that it doesn't matter. That's where they are on the decision.

 

But let's say we take it from your point of view. You are insinutaing that the HHS team is spoiled, spends their money recklessly, the administration makes poor decisions, their priorities are out of whack, and they are cocky, arogant and try to rub "charter buses" in the face of their opponents! (that's funny). At the end of the day (even if all that was spot on), it's their choice. They figure out their budget. They figure out how to fund the things they do. Contrary to what you think, they have very educated people making their decisions with the best interest of every kid at that school. I could see if internally, HHS people were complaining and education was suffering because of it. But you just saw the headlines of the paper yesterday, obviously education is doing just fine.

Ft. Thomas simply needs to take a tiny portion of the gigantic amounts of city tax dollars and install a giant mirror in front of Dale Mueller field. People dont want to play Highlands because they are who they are. Same as Lexington schools will not play Lexington Catholic. That is why Ryle dropped Highlands. Now if people want to continue discussions about buses or facilities, continue on. Highlands faithful can moan all they want. Take a page out of T's book, play teams from Tennessee and Indiana....and not on just years you think you can win.

 

It absolutely applies! Our baseball team plays at a city park in Ft Thomas. They have to raise money, just like the softball team for field maintenance extras. I wouldn't call HHS's football field the class of NKY! Would you???? Their locker rooms are extremely old and outdated...home and away. Their stands are 60 years old or more. The lighting is not the greatest. They have turf, but that was donated by private donations and several teams and organizations use that field, they don't have some extra practice facility, the boys and girls all play in the same gym for bball, so I'm not sure where the title 9 comment came from??? Probably need to look at the entire post before just highlighting one thing that you want to bring up.

Also, do a little research before you post...take a look at the tax rates around Ft. Thomas. I think you'll find there aren't much difference. Everyone acts like HHS has all this money laying around in their golden vault hidden deep beneath the school. It's hilarious!! We play by the same rules as everyone else. Except the private schools!

If the Fort Thomas school district does have a bunch of secret tax revenue stashed away, I sure hope they use it to increase teacher salaries so that the district can hire more experienced teachers, in order to stop losing more and more ground to Beechwood in the state academic rankings...

You're not going to believe what I saw last night...there were two charter buses parked in front of Highlands last night. So either Highlands is going WAY overboard now and picking up their players at home in charter buses and bringing them to school OR other schools actually rent charter buses too!

I saw those monsters too, and immediately thought of this thread! Man, those were like rock star tour buses. I'm glad Boyd County could ride up in nice buses like that, but it certainly proves the senselessness of this Highlands bus argument.

Once they give Campbell two beat downs the next two years only the schools who have to play them will remain on their schedule in NKY. If they refuse to play multiple GCL schools than Sycamore, Mason, Columbus DeSales or similar teams will show up on their schedule. NKY 6A programs can still schedule quality programs to get ready for state playoffs without having to add the Birds.

Nice post! I agree with you. Hopefully Camp Co will stay. They are definitely going in the right direction. They are led by a former blueboy who understands why it's important to compete with high level programs to prepare. We can all watch over the next couple years and see what happens. Under great coaching, Camp Co should be a test of whether playing HHS type teams hurts or helps. I say it helps (read the other post!) but some think it's not healthy for their programs. We'll see.

 

And I agree, there are plenty of quality opponents for the 6A teams to schedule to help them prepare. The question is, will they? The 6A schools seem to be happy with just moving forward in the playoffs instead of winning the state! It's like they concede to T and X before the season even starts! I just don't get it. Yes, T is on a great run and them and X may still be the standard for a long time, but they will come back to normal (maybe after this year). Normal for them is very good, but not where they have been recently. But 6A fans seem to have an opinion that they are okay with being lucky enough come in second. Play better teams and your team gets better. I'm not even talking about HHS, play any teams that you know will be a reach for you to beat. Forget about your record and prepare your teams to get better so when you play Trinity or X your kids don't spend the 1st half looking across the line in amazement! Prepare them to play kids that are much bigger and much faster. Kids can adjust, but if it's the first time they see something like that is in a playoff or state game, you give them no chance to compete. Forget for a minute that I'm a HHS fan. Pretend I'm just a guy that knows sports! I'm not calling them out as a HHS fan, I'm calling them out as a NKY football fan. Yes, even HHS fans love it when we used to watch the news every week and see the NKY schools all moving forward and dominating their opponents in the playoffs. But NKY has lost their edge and I think its because we've gotten soft and protect our kids from failure. That's what sports are about!

RC- I agree with you. I think the 6A teams up here do need to have a couple teams on their schedule that are better than them to prepare for the playoffs but they know that they cannot overdue it. Playing the NKY 6A district schedule for a month is physically demanding plus there are a lot of rivalry games in there. You cannot over due it or you will not be healthy heading into the postseason.

Everyone that is not a HHS supporter is really quick to tell us that we need to schedule more Ohio teams. Why is that a solution? We shouldn't have to schedule out of state teams. Highlands has quite enough schools in the surrounding area that can and should be on the schedule. Trinity shouldn't have to go out of state either for that matter. None of the KY schools should. There is enough talent in this state to make just about every school competitive on every level. It's how each school develops that talent that defines how competitive they will be. Just about every school has its ups and downs talent wise. In NKY, the middle school league has gone from a handful of teams competing against each other year in and year out. Now, almost every middle school has a team, and some have two team per school. There are three size divisions where there used to be only one. Cov Cath has really benefitted from their middle school league and have won several championships as a result and they are supplying the high school with some talented players.

 

The FTJFL limits their teams to a specific number of players to be able to really give more individualized coaching to each player. Everyone gets the opportunity to play. When some of the coaches are working with the older group (mostly the starters), the younger ones aren't standing around watching. They are being coached and are doing the same drills as the older group. The younger players are being developed just like the older ones. Doing this for 6 years prior to high school, is what helps HHS reload each year. There is nothing more frustrating as a parent than to pay tons of money into a program just to see the same 15 kids play the entire game year in and year out. Been there, done that. And the response from the coaching staff, is "well, your kid needs to get better..." Ok, how is he supposed to get better if he never does anything in practice but stand on the sideline WATCHING? To get better, the kids have to do the drills, same plays,etc. It creates muscle memory and confidence.

 

But I digress, my apologies. High schools in the NKY area especially should be doing more to develop starters as well as second, third, and even fourth string (if they have enough players). You can't expect a second or third string player to jump into a starting players spot if all he has done is watch from the sideline. There is talent at each and every NKY high school. Development and correct use of that talent can bring just about every school up to a higher level, but it can't be done instantly. I'm not saying putting a team like Pendleton County up against a Trinity team. But by starting off playing a good team maybe one or two levels up can do some good. See what other higher level teams are doing in the off season, find out what they do that maybe you are not. Keeping middle schoolers interested so that they want to continue playing into high school and you don't lose your talent pool.

Please give me evidence where Warner said his goal was to build a nationally recognized program after that victory. I believe he knows the area pretty well. With Cooper just being built down the road in 2008 and probably another being built in the near future again in Boone County, I seriously doubt that was stated. However, Ryle has sent players to some big colleges in the ten years he has been there. Was there any big time college players prior to 2003? Maybe that is how he wants the program to be recognized so his players can get exposure and recruitment when they have talent. What I have heard him say is that there was not a college program that came to recruit the players his first couple of years, so it appears his goal of being a nationally recruitable Kentucky high school has been accomplished. Just ask Notre Dame, Navy, Marshall, Harvard, Western Kentucky, Army, Georgetown College, Morehead State, as well as several smaller schools that have landed the Ryle Raiders. I believe they like his players, as well as, the large and small schools that lost out in recruitment.

As much as a beating that Ryle has taken in this thread , after giving HHS what 6, 8, 10 games, why would any NKy program want to schedule HHS? Is there no such thing as graditude or humility in Ft. Thomas!
