October 26, 201213 yr Miss my Mother too . She died in 1996 but for all intents and purposes she was gone in 1993 the year my Dad died ..... She had Alzheimers ,an insidious disease . My dad hid her disease pretty well from me and my sibs. Miss them both .
October 26, 201213 yr Thanks for posting this! I still am fortunate enought to have both my parents. But I was thinking just yesterday that I need to call and go see them more. I often have to choose between going to see them or my son and daughter-in-law, since both live about the same distance away, but in often directions. I always hate the choice I have to make when I have the time available and can only go one or the other.
October 26, 201213 yr Hey Doc, that was really great for me to read at this point in my life. I am still young and so are my parents. I am about to graduate college and begin my career, so I will take this as a reminder to never take my parents for granted and always make time for them. I can only hope that I have no regrets when that time comes. Thanks for sharing.
October 26, 201213 yr Nice post about parents Spindoc - my mom has been gone for 15 months now. I'm so glad we moved back to KY when we did. I will never regret the things we did for her over the years, and neither will my family.
October 27, 201213 yr I feel ya. I lost my dad two years ago today to pancreatic cancer. I was 21 when I lost my best friend and took it hard. As you can see by the time(I usually like my sleep) I am having a tough time right now. Hopefully you're doing better!
October 27, 201213 yr Nice post spindoc, I lost my mon 36 years ago and I live a few minutes from the cemetary in which I visit often. I miss her dearly and think of her all the time. I agree with BleedBlue12 don't take parents for granted because when they are gone you can not make up any time. Love and charish your parent's why you still have them. JD
October 27, 201213 yr I feel for you. I lost my mom 20 years ago, when I was 20. So this is the year that I've now reached the point where I have lived longer without my mom, than with her. That's incredibly sad to me.
October 28, 201213 yr Nice post! I, like many of the posters understand. My Mom is 84 and has alzheimers. She really isn't the same person who used to be there. I know what you mean because my Dad died young, and there are things that I could talk to her about, and I can't anymore. I hope for you that she died with dignity and your memories are all good.
October 28, 201213 yr It's been 4 years since Mom passed. Her birthday is in a couple days. It's still instinct for the sibs and I to start the ritual dialog, "What are we doing for mom's Bday?" Thank you, Spindoc, for the reminder to pause and let our hearts and memories fill with MOM. Like you, my eldest is a senior, with so many cool milestone moments that I want to share with mom. I want to shout out and say, "Mom--look at the awesomeness that you started!" Because nobody, and I mean NOBODY, gets more excited about your kids than Grandma! October 28, 201213 yr Nice post Spindoc! I lost my mom to pancreatic cancer just 4 years ago and she was till young, at times it feels just like a few months and other times it feels like its been forever. The one thing she wanted to due during her 10 month battle was spend as much time with the family, I'll treasure those later months forever! We talked a lot, and more conversations that we had previous years. The advice to people is do NOT wait! I often listen to her voicemail message I saved after her passing, but would give anything to hear her voice in person one more time. Taking the song Live Like You We're Dying. Live and love those around you as if they are dying. Again, nice post Spindoc
October 28, 201213 yr I have very similar feelings with my mother passing on a little over two years ago. Nothing can be taken for granted with them or anyone/anything else.
October 28, 201213 yr I have liked reading the posts in this topic. I am an old mother and grandmother and have a suggestion. My kids live away. I see my daughter twice a year. Call, don't just text. We want to share daily life. Nothing better than a grandchild calling to say "We won and I scored a goal" or "I stayed up on skis today" or "I made an A". A child calling just to say things are going good. The news doesn't have to be exciting. We want to be included even if we aren't there.
