You can not scout opponent's game by filming in High School. However, in the NKYFL league you can scout by filming opponent's games which I totally disagree. Several coache's do exchange film and alot of games are on Hudl. JD

 

There is no rule that you cannot film a game that you are not playing in. HOWEVER, it is gentleman's/coaches agreement that this is NOT done. Thus reason for Hudl. This came from a source at KHSAA last year so unless rules have change this year generally teams do NOT film games they are not playing in.

 

Not sure what the issue was with filming/broadcasting the game. #1 these 2 teams won't see each other again #2 any team from another 5A district is going to have to know Ryle broadcast the game and needs to go website to see the replay. Again, with the advent of Hudl there is no need to worry about seeing what Conner is doing. Trosper most likely is going to put 2 of his games to trade for his playoff opponent on Hudl and the team Conner will play will most likely do the same. If a coach doesn't get the game he wants in the trade he can always call an opposing coach that Conner played and ask for it to be uploaded onto Hudl. This isn't rocket science and there are ways around the system so not really sure wha the issue was.

 

However, it was at Conner so they have the right to do whatever they want but they should know that it can happen to them as well even if it is an audio broadcast.

Did you tell them ahead of time that you were going to be broadcasting, or that you'd like to broadcast, that game? Seems to me that any issue regarding the broadcasting should have come up then.

Are you affiliated with Ihigh or Ryle?

Since Ryle is 6A and Conner is 5A the simple solution for Ryle would be not to play Conner again.

 

And if Ryle was not told ahead of time (before Friday) by Conner (and it is Conner everyone, not Connor) that is very bush league.

Coaches filming a game for learning/coaching purposes is completely different than a broadcast team filming to stream to the Internet, or whatever they planned on doing. I'm sure there was no problem with Ryle filming for coaching purposes. The issue comes when a broadcast team sets up without permission.

Quick question. Where does Conner video their home games from? I was just curious because of rule #1.

I do not know this for a fact, I didn't pay attention during the game, but have heard from very reliable source that the Cooper Conner game, the Cooper folks who were videoing for their team was not allowed in the press box where I thought the Conner video crew filmed from. I may be wrong, I don't know where Conner video's so I am simply asking. The Cooper vdieo had to be from ontop of the roof instead of in the building itself where I know for a fact the previous year the JV game was filmed from inside the press building itself because I was in there with the Conner JV Video team.

Personally I don't see what the big deal is for broadcasting the game. There are 3 weeks left in the season and my understanding is that upcoming opponents get the previous 2 weeks worth of game film from the other team. It is ironic though that a Conner fan the other night was talking about bush league so called tactics, but it was Conner who supposedly put a halt to this.

Conner films from atop the pressbox. Not sure about the Cooper game HB, but I know that the Conner coaches were put outside at the game last year at Cooper. The Conner coaches could not even hear over their headsets due to the stadium address speakers being so close to them. This was NOT the film crew, but the coaching staff. Talk about bush league. I have also been informed that Conner coaches were put outside at Ryle also due to "space issues". Only difference is that a thread was not started about these issues on BGP.

There's no way that rule could be enforced. Very few facilities beyond the bigger and newer schools have facilities that would accomodate both teams. So its impossible for it to be truly equal.

 

The more I read this, it sounds like Conner doesn't like the broadcast for whatever reason and the iHigh folks didn't set it up and get approval ahead of time. Not some big consipiracy. I'm going to put my tin-foil hat away and stop looking for black helicopters in Hebron.

 

Seems kind of silly to disallow the broadcast, but they run the school and the program and are allowed to do whatever they want within the rules. This is not governed by the KHSAA.

 

I have to ask, was there any criticism of Conner on the broadcast prior to being shut down?

What would Conner do if Fox Sports Ohio wanted to film the game?
