October 4, 201214 yr That's Joker's fault, not the players fault....all Joker had to say was be here and study extra film....very simple instead of blaming players....that's why he is in the mess he's in now!!!

October 4, 201214 yr Because of NCAA restrictions on time, he can't. Ask Rich Rodriguez about that one... C'mon GT....coaches can get their messages out/across without directly saying the words. Happens all the time. And a player with a game DVD and a laptop can study film anywhere/anytime.
October 4, 201214 yr Agree about the limited number of top level Ky D1 kids. But UK has, just has, to get more of those few who can play in the SEC. Best recruiting line I, as a coach of another school recruiting against UK, would use to recruit a kid from, say, Ga.: "Why would you want to go to UK? The best players from Kentucky don't even go to UK. If a native son doesn't want to go to UK, why would you?" There's the rub. How many Ky kids are actually top SEC talent each year? There may be years where there are none. Yes if there are one or two, it's a must. The kids they need are not in Ky. It is not an easy proposition for the any coaching staff.

And a player with a game DVD and a laptop can study film anywhere/anytime. By doing something like saying "you two are competing for the number 2 spot" from day 1? I agree. Towels was told he was not an option this year and that his job would be to study up on being the opposing QB all year. Now the coach is disappointed he is behind in the playbook? HA!!!
October 4, 201214 yr As far as the Boise State comparsions go, there's a slight difference in playing in their conference and playing in the SEC.

October 4, 201214 yr That's my point; it is a must and it hasn't been happening enough. Gotcha. I took you as saying if they got the Ky D1 kids they would be competitive in the SEC.
October 4, 201214 yr Gotcha. I took you as saying if they got the Ky D1 kids they would be competitive in the SEC. Nope. Not what I meant. Sorry I didn't make that clearer. I do think that being able to land the few SEC caliber Ky players each year, would make it easier to attract better out of state talent. Again, "if the top Kentucky players don't go to UK, why would I?"
October 4, 201214 yr Author @KyleTucker_CJ: Joker said Towles told him today he wished UK's game was in two hours. Joker: "I don't."
October 4, 201214 yr Because of NCAA restrictions on time, he can't. Ask Rich Rodriguez about that one...Qb's study film all year round....Joker had rather blame the kids than take credit himself.....can't wait to see someone with a little common sense run the program right!!

Again, "if the top Kentucky players don't go to UK, why would I?" I think if you look back over the past few years you will find that at least half of the d-1 players in the state go to UK, problem is there just aren't very many.
October 4, 201214 yr I think if you look back over the past few years you will find that at least half of the d-1 players in the state go to UK, problem is there just aren't very many. Perhaps you are right and I just focus on the ones that got away. Starting with those kids that I'm most familiar with that went D-1: Collinsworth to ND; Grubbs to Miami of Ohio; Bruns to UC; both Guidugli kids to UC; Dempsey to UC (to be fair neither UC nor UK offered, but the fact that Dempsey has started for UC this year would indicate to me that UK missed a diamond in the rough in its back yard); Dawson to USC; doesn't look like Hatcher will end up at UK, nor will Quick or Blivins; the Fugate kid went to UT (did we even offer?); Jon Davis ended up choosing Illinois over UK; others? Then you have those that chose UL over UK. UK did land some. Simpson, Towles, Warford, Cobble, Patterson, and Wilson quickly come to mind. It would be interesting if someone knows or has the time to research it, to see how many kids receiving D-1 offers in the last 10 years choose UK and how many didn't. Maybe I'm way off base on my point. If so, I'll gladly admit I was mistaken. Heck, I hope I'm wrong.
October 4, 201214 yr ^ How many of those would be top players in the SEC? I think there is a big difference in B-East, and MAC recruits than the ones the top SEC teams go after. That was my point. Most of the Ky D1 Ky kids really wouldn't help UK get to the top in the SEC. Those kids are in Fla. Ga, and Texas. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure had UK landed those players, they would have been better, but still not competing with the SEC big boys.

I'm certain Austin Collinsworth would provide consistent and steady hands as a receiver. Not saying they'd be world beaters and bring an SEC East division title but it would have been nice to see them at UK and they would have helped on the field and off. As was said, if the best from Ky don't come why should anyone from SEC territory come as well?
