Catch 22 The Brossart football program is struggling because the better players from our feeder schools are going to other schools. The better players from our feeder schools are going to other schools because our present football team is struggling.

 

We are not going to attract blue-chip football players UNLESS they are members of die-hard Brossart families. Just as we did back in the late 70's and through the 80's we built our basketball program with players who were not quite ready for prime time, but could play and be big fish in our small pond. I would be foolish to think that just because we have football that prime-time players would flock to us. NCC has built and sustained a tradition of gridiron excellence. This is obviously one of the major factors keeping Brossart from becoming a big league football program. Were we the only game in the geographic area it would be highly beneficial to us, but we are not. We are competing for kids in a fishbowl occupied by a 2-A state contender, and a resurgent program with a new stadium, vibrant coach, and free tuition. We are very late to the party and the fate gods have not been kind to us. Landing in 2-A has been a huge setback. Remaining in 1-A would have been a huge opportunity to develop a program that could compete, have a winning record, perhaps go deep in the playoffs and create a niche for those guys standing on NCC and Campbell County's sidelines watching others play, allowing them to play in a successful program.

What kind of School rules, no tie on game day.

Clearly not concerned with academics or they would reconsider. With CC's test scores rising each year in addition to their football finally showing signs of life they may start appealing to a wider audience.

From what I am hearing more than just school rules, and that's puting it mildly!!! I would seriously doubt he would be back for the rest of the season. If it were my kid.....no way in hell I'd let him play the rest of the season!!!

Excellent analogy, You would be 100% correct. I did hear a few things last night while attending the Highlands/CovCath game, but was waiting to see what was posted, and if there was any merit to it. However I'd say he broke more than team rules!!

One thing I will say is BB is just to late to football. The kids from St Joe and St Mary grew up watching their neighbors brothers cousins wearing the blue and gold and thats been a life goal of theirs. Their dad played for NewCath so thats where they want to go and play. Secondly you could go to BB and struggle or NewCath and have a chance to be a stste champ year in and year out. I woyld rather be part of a winning program than one only winning a small amount of games a year vs very small bad teams. I wish the Mustangs luck but IMO the football program should have never happened.

Here is an outsider's view of Brossart football.

 

1. Landing in 2A definitely hurt. That should change with the next redistricting. Wins against anyone can build momentum in a young program. That being said, there are some games on this year's schedule that needed to be wins and they aren't. That brings me to #2.

 

2. Based on the product at this point in development, I believe a new coach is needed. Brossart needs to create a buzz and give kids something they can believe in. The only thing besides wins that can do that at this point is a coach with the charisma and ability to get kids to believe and show up on the field.

 

I have no doubt that Brossart can have a good football program. Families who want a Catholic education would like to send their children to the local school. But if the kid is a good and focused football player, it is a tough decision to choose Brossart.

Really have no dog in this situation, but I don't think it is anybody's business why the kid was suspended. And if someone has info I would think they would have enough class to keep it to themselves and not even imply anything.

Do many football players at BB play basketball? Wonder how football hurts the basketball team. If there is one Mustang anyone from NewCath wouldnt mind seeing up on the Hill its the basketball coach. That guy is impressive. He makes OK basketball players into pretty darn good basketball players. I also heard about the suspended kid, and if what I wad told is true I would be ashamed to be a BB fan if he plays again. Good luck to the Mustangs moving forward.
