Prestonsburg QB Jarred Jarrell threw for 676 yards and 9 TD's

Prestonsburg kept their starters in and kept throwing the ball all over the field. They threw a 95 yard touchdown pass while they were leading 70 to 41 in the 4th quarter. Then they got the ball back leading 77-41 and threw for another 45 yards or so to take an 83-41 lead.

 

Jarredd Jarrell now is the state record holder for most yards in a game. Radio said he had 676 yards and 9 TD passes (unofficial)

 

I wish I were there to watch the handshake and coaches exchange of pleasantries between John Derrossett and John Chapman when this one was over.

That makes two of us... but personally I am glad Derrossett did it to him. Chapman has had no problem running up the score on lesser oponents and let's just say "class" is not synonomous with his name.

If there were hard feelings then Week 10 could be interesting when these teams play each other again due to scheduling issues.

Sad to see PC got beat like this, but they have a chance to redeem themselves later in this one.

One point to ponder, when Pburg went up 77-41 there was still about 10 minutes to go. Pike Central had been tearing up the Pburg defense, which has given up a ton of points all season, and in this type of shootout game, 36 points may not have been a comfortable margin.

 

I don't know why you'd shorten the game by continuing to throw in that situation, but that is what they did.

 

I don't know if the coaching staff was aware of the record and was trying to get it for Jarrell or not. The last possession they got the ball on about the 45 and he needed something like 28 yards. He threw 2 or 3 consecutive passes and connected on a long TD that gave him the yards he needed.

 

Either way, congratulations to young Mr Jarrell. That must have been some performance to watch and he deserves every bit of credit he gets for his accomplishment.

Something else to ponder on is Pike Central defeated an injury riddled Pburg team 53-7 last year in Week 10. The Hawks were still chucking it around the field deep in the 4th Qtr of that game.

 

All indications are that this was about getting the kid the record, but I am sure last year's game didn't phase Derrossett's mindset as well.

 

I heard someone else say it, and it is a very good point, but if you score 50 points there should be no chance a team runs the score up on you. HAHA
