If your a cop and have to use a taser everytime you turn around you probably shouldn't be a cop.

Having a football helmet in hand is having a weapon.

The only player I see on the roster that is 5'5 , 140 lbs is the son of one of the coaches.

 

Only one player is listed at this size. He does share the same last name as one of the coaches. Any relation?

A helmet would be defined as a dangerous instrument and it could easily be lethal.

I am looking at this like if this was my kid. A cop should only tase someone if they have a weapon. If you don't think you can cuff the kid call for backup!

 

If your a cop you should be in good shape also unless they hit the donuts to much.

 

I think this situation could have been handled differently.

Just went through "liking" a bunch of posts in this thread. Was going to comment on some of them but decided against it. Wish I could "dislike" a few of them while I'm here as well. :lol:

If I was the coach I would have called practice and made all the other players go to the locker rooms and left the out of control player on the field and lock him out till he calmed down.

 

Now were talking about a lawsuit waiting to happen.

For those against the use of a taser, keep in mind it is used to avoid the police officer from being injuryed as well as the perp.

 

I have a cousin that is a cop in Owensboro. Several years ago he was attempting to arrest a drunk. Of course the guy was fighting back. My cousin got him on the ground on his stomach, had a knee in his back to hold him down and was trying to get his arm behind his back to cuff him and the guy was resisting. While my cousin was pulling his arm the guy was pull back and the guys arm broke. My cousin, the department, and the city got sued. The guy didn't win but it all could have been avoided if my cousin would have had a taser. This is just one of 100 stories he has told me of people who were drunk, high, stupid, or all of the above that he and every other cop have to deal with everyday. Cops get hurt, perps get hurt and even killed. With a taser it hurts like hell for a few seconds but no injuries.

Sad event with an unhappy ending for the young man. Glad to see Coach follow the guidelines and procedures as outlined to him and not take action by himself or allow the team to 'handle' the player.
