I have a bunch of friends that are cops and they only tase if they have to. There is no reason why you should tase a kid. I hope the cop is fired.

 

Disagree, a high school football player (that would normally be in real good physical shape) would be a very serious thread to a police officer.

Sounds like this team has no leadership! If this was last year I think Travis Elliot would have ran the kid off the field.

 

I don't often defend Coach Warner but in this case I believe just the opposite, it sounds like they do have leadership only they had an out of control kid and school policy dictated how it was to be handled.

Tasing is the safest way to take a person down, both for the kid and the officer. You certainly don't want to have to use the club on a kid.

I think there is a point there. Where were the Ryle captains when this was going on? Perhaps busy with drills at first, but if it appears that this behavior eventually caught everyone's attention. Was everything that could be tried, within BOE policy constraints, that could have been tried before escalating to law enforcement?

 

Escalation tends to occur if anger is responded to with anger.

I am looking at this like if this was my kid. A cop should only tase someone if they have a weapon. If you don't think you can cuff the kid call for backup!

If your a cop you should be in good shape also unless they hit the donuts to much.

The idea is not getting hurt if you are the cop and sometimes that makes a taser your best option. I don't know enough details to second guess the use of the taser and I unless I hear to the contrary I fully support the police on this one.

From everything I have heard, the tasing was warranted and the best option available to law enforcement. Just an unfortunate incident all the way around.

If I was the coach I would have called practice and made all the other players go to the locker rooms and left the out of control player on the field and lock him out till he calmed down.
