September 13, 201214 yr Author WOW if True. PICKET: UPDATE - Lebanon news rape report on murdered U.S. amb. in Libya remains unconfirmed by AFP - Washington Times Unfortunately Ref, this would not surprise me.
September 13, 201214 yr There is continuing political upheaval and violence throughout the Middle East and it can not be made to go away by anyone or any policy of the U.S. The U.S. needs to defend the embassies and ensure there are no more deaths to Americans to prevent any further attacks. We need to pressure the governments in these nations to control the mobs. That is really all we can do in my opinion. Well, there's another option, but not one that will ever be considered....
September 13, 201214 yr We are at a very critical point in the Middle East. I think you can take this to the bank. The people of these countries are tired of US sticking our nose into their affairs. We fight these half wars by throwing money and firearms at it, yet we don't put a boot on the ground. Whose to say we aren't giving the money and arms to the wrong people? I'm worried that we are on the brink of some big event/crisis in the Middle East. Things are falling apart rather quickly. It really is an alarming turn of events. I am also suprised at the lack of media coverage. Those Mayans are looking smarter and smarter each day. Not kidding though it really is scary.
September 13, 201214 yr NBC chief foreign correspondent's view of Obama’s "Egypt not an ally" statement: TODD: I just want to get your first reaction, before you give me a report, of the President saying Egypt was not an ally or an enemy. ENGEL: Yeah, I almost had to sit down when I heard that. For the last forty years, the United States has had two main allies in the Middle East — Saudi Arabia and Egypt, the other ally in the Middle East being Israel. For the President to come out and say, well, he’s not exactly sure if Egypt is an ally any more but it’s not an enemy, that is a significant change in the perspective of Washington toward this country, the biggest country in the Arab world. It makes one wonder, well, was it worth it? Was it worth supporting the Arab Spring, supporting the demonstrations here in Tahrir Square, when now in Tahrir Square there are clashes going on behind me right in front of the US embassy? You can see now teargas coming — teargas being fired into a crowd of demonstrators who are trying to get close to the embassy, which is at the end of the street, and throw rocks at the US embassy. A very different scene here, a very different Egypt before, when the United States — President Obama — was supporting the demonstrators, President Mubarak was in power, and Egypt was very much an ally. The President doesn’t seem to be sure if Egypt is an ally any more, and some demonstrators who the Arab Spring helped give a voice to are trying to attack the US embassy.
September 13, 201214 yr Our biggest issue is that we project our values and paradigms on predicting behavior in people and groups that have a different set of values and paradigms. That is a recipe for failed policy. "Might makes right". (Le Morte d'Arthur - Sir Thomas Mallory 1485). To forget this fact in dealing with the middle east would be a grave mistake! I am truly impressed with a Mallory reference on BGP. Kudos, young man, well done.
September 13, 201214 yr Our embassy in Cairo was over-run because the Marines assigned to protect it were denied live ammo to defend it. Intelligence warned Obama on Sept.4 of threats to our embassies but he took no action.. Wonder why ?
September 13, 201214 yr Our embassy in Cairo was over-run because the Marines assigned to protect it were denied live ammo to defend it. Intelligence warned Obama on Sept.4 of threats to our embassies but he took no action.. Wonder why ? Well, at least we have transparency.

September 13, 201214 yr I never thought I would feel this way but after watching tonights evening news I think it's time we quit being the worlds watchdog. Bring home all of our troops and let all of these countries that sure do like our financial aid but nothing else about us let them take care of themselves and let them fight their own battles. We need to start taking care of ourselves 1st here in the great USA. I know that this will never happen but I'm tired of seeing our troops killed and our embassys attacked.
September 13, 201214 yr We took out Sadam in Iraq and are working on removing the Taliban im Afghanistan. Why aren't those included in your list? Mubarac was a US ally. Like the doctor sitting the jail in Pakistan. With friends like the US who needs enemies. This week it was unclear based on statements from the administration as to Egypt's status - it was said they are not an ally but not an enemy... THIS is exactly the type of scenario that Condi Rice was referring to in her speech at the Republican convention. Waffling and ambiguity by the US makes the world dangerous.
September 14, 201214 yr The Marines in Cario did have ammo but they report to the Ambassador not a military commander. If Ambassador ordered them not to fire they would not. The six that got in the compound were quickly detained by Marines. There were no Marines at the compound in Libya, BTW. While I agree there were warnings that should have been adheared to, I can't find a credilble source that says the Marines were denied ammo. The Dept of Def will not release what the rules for engagement are so all wecan do is speculate as to why these guys were able to scale the wall and put up a flag without being shot or stopped.

Claymore mines and tripwires come to mind and a good rule of engagement....

September 14, 201214 yr The one bad thing is we do, the someone like China will come right in behind up and set up shop, never a good thing. Sadly that's exactly how it would happen, when it comes to China and Russia I don't see the US ever being in anything but a Cold War status/power struggle.
September 14, 201214 yr Revealed: inside story of US envoy's assassination - World Politics - World - The Independent According to this report the US had information of an attack 48 hours prior yet were not put on high alart. If this is true it is absolutely ridiculous.
