U.S. Embassies being attacked!

Featured Replies

Yes, I know there are some threads that kind of get to the point, BUT I have NOT found one thread that just reported the events and facts! ALL that I have found have been to bash Obama or the Dept of State! I just renewed after thinking about it for two months of not being on here, now I kind of wish I wouldn't have renewed, as it's the same old garbage.

Now to the "events": First we had the consulate in Benghazi and the embassy in Cairo, now as I type this, we have the embassy in Yemen being stormed! And a large protest in Iran.

The FIRST thing that one must do is not incite the anger any further, the best way to approach it is to stand back and gather all of the facts first, let the host country condemn the acts first. By allowing the host country to condemn the violence you are giving them a chance, and it will help slow down or stop more violence as well as save US lives. After the facts came in the Whitehouse and Dept of State did condemn the violence, and said that the U.S. will hunt down anyone and everyone involved. Did anyone else see the video where Obama with Sec. Clinton by his side condemned the violence? People need to wait for all of the facts to come in before getting upset.

Plus, why don't you go work at one of these embassies or consulates? If you worked at any of them you would not want your government putting your life in danger by saying the wrong thing! Think about these people first, they are the ones who's lives are in danger, not yours! The US must protect these people first, as well as any US citizen in those countries before anything else is said or done. In fact, a very large group of US business people were just in Cairo the same day, I am sure they, as well as other US citizen would want the US to wait until they can be safe before strongly condemning these violence acts. It's easy to sit back in the US and say what we should or should not do or say.

Now, people need to realize that these are ideologies we never experienced before. It's just a very small number of radical extremists who are causing trouble. BUT, we ALL knew this stuff would happen, remember the government and even people within the military speaking out against that wacko pastor from Florida who wanted to have a burn the Koran ceremony. He was told that such acts will put US lives in danger overseas, we KNEW this stuff would happen. Anyone remember the South Park episode about a Family Guy episode depicting Mohammad? The few, and yes it's just a few, radical extremists do not care about freedom of speech, so we need to be careful, on what we say and do, as with freedom of speech comes responsibility.

This is like a smaller version of 9/11, as the US was attacked yesterday, as beyond the walls of the embassies is US soil, it's sovereign territory, it's an attack on the US. SO, therefor we ALL MUST stand together as we did on 9/11, work together not insult or attack each other.

As the Chairman of the House Intelligence committee said, we must stop the scaling of the embassies and consulate walls, and now! If not, it will get worse very fast. We must work together on this.

And now, a worker at the embassy in Berlin just became ill after being handed a package, Hazmat decontamination units on the scene.

We are at a very critical point in the Middle East. I think you can take this to the bank. The people of these countries are tired of US sticking our nose into their affairs. We fight these half wars by throwing money and firearms at it, yet we don't put a boot on the ground. Whose to say we aren't giving the money and arms to the wrong people? I'm worried that we are on the brink of some big event/crisis in the Middle East. Things are falling apart rather quickly.

It really is an alarming turn of events. I am also suprised at the lack of media coverage.

Well we helped destabalize the countries by taking out leaders who had them under control. Egypt was never like this until we helped and encouraged the overthrow of Mubarac and allowed the Muslim Brotherhood to lie to us and tell us how much better off it would be if they were in charge.

Libya never had this problem until we helped encourage and allow the over murder of Gadafi and allow who knows who to take over.

We are the casue of the whole problem, not some movie about a person named Muhammad.

There is continuing political upheaval and violence throughout the Middle East and it can not be made to go away by anyone or any policy of the U.S. The U.S. needs to defend the embassies and ensure there are no more deaths to Americans to prevent any further attacks. We need to pressure the governments in these nations to control the mobs. That is really all we can do in my opinion.

We took out Sadam in Iraq and are working on removing the Taliban im Afghanistan. Why aren't those included in your list?

Exactly. We took out Sadam on false information. We should have stayed in Afghanistan, done our job and gone home. Instead, our esteemed think tank cost countless lives overthrowing a regime that was of very little threat to us. Plus, he balanced out the threat of Iran.

The Taliban is as strong now as they were then.

(Reuters) - The Taliban raised about $400 million last year from sources that included donations, taxing local economies and extorting money from such targets as drug dealers, cell phone operators and aid projects, according to a U.N. report on the militant Islamist group released on Tuesday.

Reuters) - The Afghan Taliban denied a report on Monday that some of their leading members were ready to negotiate a comprehensive peace deal involving a long-term U.S. military presence in Afghanistan.

The Taliban, who have been fighting against NATO-led troops for 11 years, have always maintained that any negotiations with Afghan authorities and Washington could only be carried out once there were no foreign soldiers on Afghan soil.

With violence in Afghanistan at its worst levels since U.S.-backed forces ousted the Taliban in 2001, the West is eager to pursue such negotiations, given that it plans to withdraw most of a currently 130,000-strong NATO-led foreign force by the end of 2014.

The US should close all embassies and consulates in the Middle East, and force all US companies to pull out of the Middle East. Let the whole damned place consume itself with its misdirected anger.

Or, as I've advocated before, we could drop the G-Bomb on them and show them we're willing to out-crazy them.

Our biggest issue is that we project our values and paradigms on predicting behavior in people and groups that have a different set of values and paradigms. That is a recipe for failed policy.

"Might makes right". (Le Morte d'Arthur - Sir Thomas Mallory 1485). To forget this fact in dealing with the middle east would be a grave mistake!
