Mispronunciation bothers me, but not as much as grammatical/spelling errors....

Here are a few

Using "loose" instead of "lose", mixing up "to" and "too", "here" and "hear", and "their" and "they're", "where" and "wear". I could go on and on.

The one mispronunciation that does bug me (and my wife says it all the time) is "terlot" instead of "toilet"

Tortilla.....TortEya

I'm not sure if I have followed correct protocal.

Ideal instead of idea
This is the biggest one of all time for me!

Does saying "Connor" instead of "Conner" count?

I'll cop to this one, but only because it's out of respect for Archie Bunker.

What's my grandson's involvement in this? :p

As long as you have a good reason:lol:. The weird thing about my wife saying it, is I swear, when we lived back East, she used to say "toilet" correctly. It was only after we moved here, that she started saying it the other way

Another one that bugs me is retched instead of reached, as in I retched as as high as I could.

I know this is a bit of a tangent, but since we're talking about words we hate to hear, I need to rant about what I've been hearing (enduring) on the NKU campus recently. For some reason, every third word out of the mouths of college-aged students has to be the word "like." We had some students give brief speeches on their paers in Geology Friday, and I thought I was going to puke listening to all the "like" and "you guys" and other garbage. I wish I could play the recording on here, it's actually funny.

If they gave out a nickel for every time the students used the word "like," I'd have like enough money to like pay for my...you know...like tuition and stuff. I mean, like, I'm sure you guys like totally know what I'm talkin' about and stuff. O.M.G., it's like seriously not cool, dude. You know what I'm sayin'?

I'm really beginning to wonder if cellphones and Social Media aren't damaging the verbal communication skills of our younger generation. Our ability to communicate has become vastly more broad, but I wonder if the exponential growth in the quantity and range of communication hasn't come at the expense of its depth, richness and clarity.

^"I know. Right?"

What is with the double affirmation of that phrase?

Those who add an s to the end of words where it doesn't belong.

Por ejemplo:

"I'm going to go to Best Buys and get me a new TV."

That one always bugged me but I think I figured out it's origin. It should be Walmart's. For example, John left home to visit Mary's house.

Louisville

Louisville

That is funny! Just curious---how did it happen that the "is" was replaced by a "long e"?
