I think more whites are on food stamps than black, so it doesn't conjure up a black face for me. Only a racist would see it as a black face, which I believe Tingles did.

It's why President Reagan didn't say "welfare recipients" but, rather, "welfare queens." He knew exactly what picture the voters he was trying to appeal to would have in their mind.

 

Reagan also used "big buck" to describe a man on food stamps that we should resent. My son saw a clip of that on TV and didn't know that it was a description of a young black man. Maybe things are better if young people don't know the epithets, but there are also a lot of us out there that are old enough to know what the undercurrents are. The Romney campaign is doing it, it is intentioanal and it is shameful.

I'm far from young and I don't think of black people when I hear the words welfare or food stamps. To me if those words are racial to you then you need to self examine.

How about his tone of voice when he is speaking to black groups. Suddenly sounds like he is preaching at the pulpit. He has a very different pace of speaking when addressing these groups, and to say he doesn't is a flat out lie.

Louise Lucas part of Obama's truth team comes immediately to mind, saying that Romney caters to rasists.

 

The left is calling Newt a racist. They look for any slant they can get and say, "Look they're rasists."

 

They've even stooped so low as to call Romney a felon.

Not sure if you call it race baiting but you can be sure both sides are intentionally using race to strengthen parts of their base.
