We agree on something! All kidding aside, color/race NEVER enters my mind on these type of things. Must be a sign of how much stereotypes and perceptions on race have actually changed through the years.

Let me say that I agree with you that race is implicated in today's politics. No doubt. Hence the 'chains' comment by none other than the VP. I also believe that you generalizing about white people (No Habib, I'm not trying to make the white man the victim) is just as bad as when people generalize on the topics such as welfare and the image you described. To me, you did the exact same thing. You are saying that the average white man is stupid and cannot see past the slick, manipulative political games. I can tell you abhor racism but you perpetuated it in another form that looks less bad from society's perspective. I wholeheartedly disagree with the notion that the average white man thinks of welfare and equates that to black people. Thanks to what I do, I am fortunate enough to be in a position where I am able talk to candidates and voters about the issues that matter to them. When they speak of welfare, sure, I have heard people speak stupidly, but the overwhelming majority voice their concern with substance pertaining to the cost and abuse and the impact it can have on society, long-term.. To me, people like Chris Matthews know that they cannot defend or rebuttal the high number of people on welfare and when they hear people call the President the "Food Stamp President" they go to the only rebuttal they have: "It's because our President is black."

Age 21. I asked because it's a matter of perspective. I bet most 21s don't recognize it or are as sensitive to it as some of us older cats.

 

It sounds like you run with a more intelligent crowd (younger/educated/not concerned with race) than what exists in the bigger population. While I do think the numbers are dwindling there is still a good-sized group looking to blame someone for their lot in life and sometimes that's the blacks ie welfare queens/food stamps/single mom with a dozen kids/etc.

 

So our realities are different. I can't wait for your reality to be the dominant reality.

That's silly talk. I can't think of a single elected official ever that I would say is unpatriotic. Even the misguided ones were patriotic.

I'm not asking what YOUR view is . I have no reason to believe you are being anything but genuine.

I think more whites are on food stamps than black, so it doesn't conjure up a black face for me. Only a racist would see it as a black face, which I believe Tingles did.
