You would see a person who thinks that the average white person thinks of black people when they hear the words, food stamps. Count me out of your average because that is not the image I "conjure up". Obviously it is the image that comes to your mind so the question you need to ask that person in the mirror is, why?

Wouldn't most of those that think black when thinking of welfare recipients already be against the candidate to begin with? Considering that we're viewing them as racist, what be the point of the right? Do you think they were leaning toward Obama this election and need to be wooed?

The Romney campaign is runnng the ads saying that the President gutted the work requirements for welfare when every independent fact checker has said it is absolutely false, the candidates lame birther joke, the constant referals to the President as somehow not quite American or European, the food stamp President line.

Oh come on. First of all, I wasn't offended by Biden's comments I just thought they were idiotic. What offends me is the White House acting like it wasn't directed toward the blacks in the audience. I mean really how often do you think Biden uses the phrase "y'all".

 

And I still don't understand why mentioning hand out programs is racial. So we are just to assume that all food stamp recipients are black?

 

Once again, if you think black people when you hear "food stamps" then why is that not considered racist thinking. In my entire life I never associated food stamps and minorities, never, ever. I associate black people with the NBA and hip hop music but not food stamps.

Fanning racial resentment has been a staple of politics for as long as I can remember. It was a staple of the Democratic party for most of its existance up until the civil rights movement. Then the roles reversed and the Republicans gleefully took it over. There have been notable exceptions, Gerald Ford comes to mind, but Nixon used it, Reagan used it big time, H W Bush dabbled in it as did his son. Romney is using the techniques he developed at Bain, say anything, do anything as long as it serves your objective. Truth is irrelevant.

I've seen racism on both sides of the aisle. I don't think either side has proven to be worse than the other. Now, some of the things you mentioned is all in who wants to see what, IMO. So, yeah, I guess truth is irrelevant for many, not just those on the right.

Two-fold

 

1. Secure any in the base that may be leaning

2. Go after those undecideds that are susceptible to "Willie Horton."
