I do think shows like Honey Boo Boo are erasing the stigma of just blacks being on welfare.

When I think of welfare/food stamps I picture a fat white woman with a litter of kids. Maybe those that automatically assume everyone pictures blacks need to take a look in the mirror.

We can't ever get over the race deal.....but if you look carefully-generation by generation it is waning. The ones who keep it alive tend to have political reasons for doing so or prosper financially for it.

 

Frankly I could give a rats behind about it, but plently of threads here saying how do the Republicans appeal to blacks, hispanics, etc?If people were really just people, regardless of skin color, then nobody would have to appeal to anybody. This is a divide and conquer issue.

I wasn't offended by Biden's comments either. They were laugh out loud funny and idiotic. Nobody defended Biden. I'm not offended by Romney's ad but after the birther joke and now the welfare ad I can definitely see the racial undertones and the people he is pandering to.

It's long been a stereotype that all blacks can do is sing and play basketball. His last post reinforces that stereotype that blacks desperately want to get away from. I guess he thinks all these baskeball players and rappers eat fried chicken and watermelon all of the time as well. You're getting so abstract now [that] you're talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites. And subconsciously maybe that is part of it. I'm not saying that. But I'm saying that if it is getting that abstract, and that coded, that we are doing away with the racial problem one way or the other. You follow me — because obviously sitting around saying, "We want to cut this," is much more abstract than even the busing thing, and a hell of a lot more abstract than "******, ******."

 

Coincidentally, Atwater was responding to a question about how talking about cutting food stamps was a way to attract Southern white voters.

Nope. And sadly I am not surprised at all.

I think that for every white person you find that has a negative opinion of blacks, you can also find a black person who has a negative opinion of whites. It's a vicious cycle that hopefully, one day, will die out.
