Cooper would not come close to Highlands, and I'm a Cooper fan!! I think Cov Cath would be very hard for Cooper to beat. They would be the favorite over the rest of the area.

As a Cooper fan I'm more concerned with the game against Boone and their run game, control the clock, offense than I am about Conner. I was not at game but from posts it seems Boone had the lead on the almighty Cougars into the 4th which proves their offense was controlling the clock and ball. Whoever "JET" is got hurt and some say could have decided the game, but who knows. The news highlights showed Boone running easily on Conner unless those were the only few successful plays. Cooper and Boone could be very tight but IF there is a big difference in score I think Cooper will be the one on top.

1. It wasn't like Conner trailed the majority of the game and had to come back. They took the lead in the 1st qtr and Boone took it back briefly early 4th qtr.

2. You are correct, though, that Boone controlled the clock and kept Conner O off of the field. 21 less plays for Conner than the previous year.

3. Jet could have helped in numerous ways but that's football.

4. "almighty Cougars?" They're a solid team who can compete in 5A. Nothing more.

Cooper is the best thing that has happened to all Boone County School arguments this year. What a nice surprise for a school so new to be getting this publicity. Borchers should be paying us for all this free pub. It's better than hearing the woes of some other newer programs that don't seem to have enough interest to survive, i.e. Pendleton Co. I love hearing all the Ryle, Conner, Boone, and even the 1 SK fan on here continue to talk about them.

But, the fact is, they won the district last year and start this year with a complete whipping of 6A Ryle who always has a very solid program and then had a running clock against defending 2A State Champ by halftime. Conner beat a ususally solid Boone team which is also a good win for them.

 

But, in your mind from what you see in Conner practices and scrimmages and one regular season game, YOU think Conner should be rated (talked about) more but others don't agree so you get all upset.

 

Cooper and Conner both have good teams and it's okay for another school other than your sons to get some love. It's really okay and no big deal on the ranking's as we all know they mean nothing. Hang in there as your team will get to prove everyone wrong. It should be a great game against two solid teams.

Rankings in high school are very similar to the way the BCS ranks college football teams. It's a perverbial group of guys sitting in a room picking who they "think" is best. There is no real way to accurately rank teams on any level, with the exception of the NFL, because each team pretty much plays every team. In high school, especially, there is no true way to rank teams. Im not speaking specifically in 5A, or any district for that matter, but overall. For example: Some of the teams that were featured on ESPN over the weekend had very high national rankings, and to me, they were unimpressive. I would take Trinity, Moeller, Cincy St. X, Highlands, and possibly some others in the area over the majority of the teams that played on TV over the weekend. Im going to also go ahead and state that the ranking of players is also ridiculious. There is no real way to rank a player in their specific position (#1 high school QB) for example, because who ranks them? Do the people who rank them see EVERY kid who plays QB in high school? No, they don't.

 

People get way too caught up in rankings, because like hja stated above, they mean nothing. When and if a team plays another team, then we can decide who is "better" or better on that night, and decide who should be ranked higher. But ranking teams across the board is nearly impossible, because not every team in NKY plays each other. It simply doesn't work, it's a flawed system. The only way to get an accurate ranking would be if every team played eachother, and that's just not possible, not enough weeks in the season. So for now, we'll just have the "what if's" and "if team A played team B" chatter that's going on. It's the same every year, and always will be.

I feel for you RE. Connor probobly has the best team in its history and has to share the limelight with its kissing cousin in Union. Its a shame only one of these schools will make it out of district to the state tournament. IMO, both are deserving. Either one of these schools would win NKy 6A easily.
