What records would that be? I couldn't find one stat that Lorenzen was ahead of Couch in let alone #1 in the state.

You're right, I thought he had more than that. I know he has the record for longest TD, and his team set records for most points in a game and maybe a season. Couch had the better individual stats. My bad.

Going back to my post....I did not get to see Couch in High School and I should have prefaced my opinion with that prior to posting.

I read up on him and he broke several National High School Records and was an awesome QB. I searched Youtube for videos of him but found nothing but UK/NFL highlights.

I would love to hear more about what he was like in HS though.

I only saw him in the playoff game at Highlands. He was the first player that I saw that came out of the locker room and just looked special. He was taller than everyone, very athletic looking, and could fling it. Trouble was, Highlands was a very, very hot team. First pass of the game a Highlands LB drilled a WR before the ball got to him. Just killed him. After that, Leslie County's receivers were looking for defenders instead of the ball and dropped a ton of passes. Then Frisk ran for about 300 yards and threw a TD.

If I remember correctly Jared never hardly played a full game his junior or senior year. He was out of most games at halftime or early in the 3rd quarter. Highlands was winning by such a big margin Dale sat him. If he had played full games he would own the record books in Kentucky in just about every category..Was he better than Couch? :idunno:

That never really happened.. It was a bad dream!! I think? lol

I remember having similar feelings when Cov Cath went down to Leslie County and beat them in '94. Couch walked out and it was obvious that HE WAS A STAR QUARTERBACK. And it was like he was throwing laser beams to his receivers. Then Cov Cath intercepted him twice in the same game (it was the first time that had ever happened to him). He was a junion and got rattled, and Cov Cath's size was too much for LC.

I saw him several times, at least once a year and sometimes as much as 3 or 4 times. He was special, the best high school QB I have ever watched. He was so accurate from the pocket, but he was even more dangerous when you flushed him out. He had the best field vision I have ever seen. When he scrambled, he always seemed to either find an open receiver at the last second, or he would tuck it and beat you for 15 yards because you were spending so much energy in coverage.

Here is a story about my first impression of Tim. He was a freshman and starting at QB at Leslie County the year after his brother Greg had graduated. Greg was a fine QB and I was thinking if this kid (Tim) grows up to be as good as his brother, Leslie will be in good shape the next few years. Leslie County played Belfry at Belfry that year (92 I think) and the Pirates built up a lead, something like 28-7. Belfry had a veteran team and they were just better than Leslie. In the middle of the 3rd quarter, there was a confrontation on the LC sideline after a pass play and a scuffle broke out. When it was over, all 4 of Belfry's defensive backs had been ejected from the game. Tim had a heyday the rest of the game, throwing nearly every down and making some really nice plays. He was a gunslinger. Belfry had to score late to hold them off. I think the final was 42-35 or 35-28, but I know they escaped with a 1 td victory.

I remember after the game thinking we may be in serious trouble vs Leslie County the next few years. And we were.

I actually saw all 3 play live in HIGH SCHOOL.

1.Couch

2.Lorenzen

3.Towles

You can't look at that way. Couch did what he did at Leslie Co. How many studs did Highlands have when Jared was there?

I also saw all three play. Jared Lorenzen is the most dominating high school football player I have ever seen. Towles is a distant third from these two.

I think comparing Couch in high school to either Lorenzen and Towles is a tough task. Lorenzen and Towles, while VERY talented, were also surrounded by a LOT of talent to compliment their own on the team. Leslie County wasn't terrible in Couch's day by any stretch, but it's a lot easier to make plays when you're quarterbacking behind a dominating offensive line, handing off to good backs, and throwing to fast receivers with good hands. Not trying to nay-say Towles' and Lorenzen's talents, but in high school, they definitely had a lot more talent on their side of the ball than Couch ever did.

True, but I say Jared palm a d lineman to the ground that started at EKU for four years. He was much more of a man among boys in high school. I am not saying he had more tools, he would simply be the number one pick I would have ever taken as a high school quarterback. Cannon, EXTREMELY tough to take down, and a crushing runner when he decided to do so.

I certainly agree with you there, Jared was more than a handful to anyone trying to tackle him, and he had a cannon for an arm on top of that, but still, I don't think he had to make as many plays happen series after series after series like Couch did. Jared might have had to tuck it and run every once-in-a-while, but he still had solid backs to hand off to, a great receiver corps, plus a D1 tight end to throw to every play.
