Couch, Lorenzen and Towles

Featured Replies

Did nobody look at my comparisons? Your friend agrees w/ something I put on PG. 2.

Schemantics here:

Couch was not Mr. Basketball in 1996. Daymeon Fishback was.

Also, Couch wasn't named #1 right off. Curry wasn't sure what to do w/ him. This is also a bad barometer b/c Lorenzon booted a very, very successfull Bonner as a red shirt Freshman.

Oh, I definitely agree with your comparisons. And that was just the unprompted response I got from him when I asked how he'd rank the three. I thought it was fairly close to spot-on, so I figured I'd share.

He's right on. I find him to be very knowledgeable.

Yep. I've tried to lure him into joining the BGP ranks a few times. He keeps refusing because he's sure it'll cut into his work too much. I have no idea what he's talking about. :idunno:

Obviously all these QB's made several fantastic plays in high school. They gave it their all, and thats all you can ask of a high school player. I don't know which one of these three were the best, nor do I know how much talent they had around them. I've seen Pat Towles run over people, just like Jared did. I saw couch play in one game in person and that was the only time I saw him play in high school. Couch obviously had talent to end up in the NFL, just as Jared did. Didn't PT break a lot of Jareds records over the years?

I once heard some college recruiters wanted to check Jareds arm strength before making a scholly offer, so they had Jared kneel down on the 40 yard line, and told him to "throw it as far as you can". Well, he threw it between the uprights of the goal posts, he didn't get 3 points for it, but he sure made believers out of those college recruiters. True story or not, I don't know, I heard it through the grapevine.

I don't know if that is true or not but I did see him kneel on the goal line in warm ups and throw it to the 40 or 50 yard line. That was impressive enough for me. I also remember a throw he made against Waggener in the championship game that hit the WR in stride about 60 yards downfield and he was under pressure. That was one throw that stands out in my mind.

I also remember watching Highlands play in the Thorougbred Bowl at Tates creek when Jarred was a frosh. HHS played St X I think (not sure) but I remember watching him warm up and thinking this must be the starting QB. He wasn't, but man did he look good throwing the football. Somebody correct me on those details if I am wrong. Also, did he get much playing time as a frosh?

I actually saw all 3 play live in HIGH SCHOOL.

1.Couch

2.Lorenzen

3.Towles

Same here.

I may be wrong, but I don't think Lorenzen played varsity at all as a freshman. He wasn't the starting quarterback as a sophomore either. He started as a junior and senior. I don't ever think I will see a high school quarterback with a stronger arm.

Maybe he was a soph instead of a frosh, but he was definitely the backup but physically he looked great in warmups and I thought he was the starter until the game started.

Having seen all three: right now I would say;

Lorenzen

Couch

Towels

Ask me again after Towels has graduated .

Don't even know what that means but ok.
Only kidding 41
Lorenzen, PT then Couch.

I saw Lorenzen throw accurately 40 yrds off his back foot running th3 other way. Also saw the 300lber tuck and sprint up the middle 40 yrds at an unbelievable speed. His mechanics in HS weren't pretty but he got it done.

PT was the prototypical QB with his frame. He has a cannon as well and deceptive wheels. His numbers were very impressive and he didnt have the same type weapons JLO had so I would say its neck and neck with JLO seeking out the victory because of the aforementioned and also due to his uncanny size at the position.

Both will go down as the best 2 QB's to ever put on a Highlands uniform.

Everyone compares the two, but what about Gino? He seems to be underrated. His numbers are better than Jared's and PT's, passing wise. He holds school records for: TD passes in a career w/ 92; TD passes in a season w/ 53; TD passes in a game w/ 8; Completions in a career w/ 445; Completions in a season w/ 260; Completions in a game with 31; Career Completion % w/ 62.2; Career passing yards with 7, 516; Passing yards in a season w/ 4,367; Yards per game for a season w/ 291.9 y/g.

I think the question was to rank their performance in high school.

And by the way, who is Towels? :sssh:

Sorry, Henry, couldn't resist. :D

Sorry Watuse, at 12:47 my spelling is not all that great. Then again, at any time of the day my spelling isn't great. Then again , at my age , I really don't care.

On a lighter note: did you know the Patricks dads middle name is cloth?:D

OK Henry, that was really bad. Terry Cloth Towels. :notworthy:

That was corny, but I like it. Terry Cloth Towels

Reminds me of a friend I went to college with. He said he went to high school with a girl whose name was Crystal Shandel Lear. I thought at first he was making it up, but he stuck with his story for the 3 years I knew him.
