August 4, 201214 yr Looked like he was in the first row. Caught it with Reds fans screaming all around him and just flipped it over his head back into the stands. I liked what the left fielder - Marte, did with Heisey's home run ball (...nothing)
August 4, 201214 yr That was probably the greatest baseball game I have been to. Total playoff atmosphere! Awesome Flyover during the anthem, clutch defense, and dominating pitching. Marty was all class after the game and the fireworks were awesome. Glad me and the wife made the trip up to Cincinnati tonight!
August 4, 201214 yr Night and day with Stillers and Buccos fans when it comes to road trips. No doubt.
August 4, 201214 yr Great that they got it done without Votto, Phillips, and Bruce. I thought that Latos looked really good from the mound last night; the two run homer was obviously a nice bonus.
August 4, 201214 yr McCutchen wasn't going to do anything...in fact Chapman was closer to charging him than he was charging the mound on Chapman. My wife looked at me and said did Chapman do that on purpose, I said we will see if he is wild this next AB. The next 3 pitches were right down the middle to end the game. He was atleast going for the brushback, I don't know if he meant to make contact.
August 4, 201214 yr Author The Pirates have starters and relievers that can bring it 95-98, if Phillips starts tommorow, he'll get it at head level,if not him, then Bruce. you just can't hit a team's star up around the head. Surprised no one even talking about this at all It wasn't close to his head. Somebody will get drilled, but like I said, they better think twice about it. Aren't we talking about it?
August 4, 201214 yr Author With two outs and the bases empty, Chapman's first pitch to Andrew McCutchen hit the Major League's top hitter flush on the left shoulder. The pitch visibly upset the Pirates in the visitors' dugout. After Chapman ended the game with a strikeout of Garrett Jones, the Bucs remained in their dugout for an unusually long time, staring down the Reds' on-field celebration. It was a somewhat bizarre ending to a game "between the top two division teams in a good atmosphere. It was definitely a good game to be a part of," McCutchen said.Asked whether getting hit by a Chapman 101-mph fastball spoiled the evening, McCutchen said:"It didn't spoil it. It just pumped us up. And that's the feeling we're going to take on the field [saturday].""You don't like to see anyone get hit," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. "Guy throws pretty hard. That's about it." "They happened to keep getting plays when they needed them," said McCutchen. "We had opportunities, but it just seemed like a lot of things went their way."Until a Chapman pitch got away. Old baseball saying: Let sleeping dogs lie. Is "Who Let The Dogs Out?" next on the playlist? MLB.com Gameday | reds.com: Gameday
August 4, 201214 yr Just another baserunner for us to knock in on that over rated team:popcorn: Pirates are decent but not winners. McCutcheon really hustled on that Heisey hiome run didn't he? Don Rickles could have backed up better.
August 4, 201214 yr It wasn't close to his head. Somebody will get drilled, but like I said, they better think twice about it. Aren't we talking about it?Your kidding, right? The upper shoulder last time I checked was pretty close to the head, anyway enough anatomy. Am a Reds fans, but don't like ANY pitcher going anywhere above the waist for a purpose pitch. Still don't like Cueto and never will for him trying to kick someone with his spikes during the Reds-Cards brawl, that kind of stuff rubs me the wrong way. As for thinking twice about it, Chapman started it, if I'm Hurdle I finish it and hope Chapman retaliates and gets a weeks suspension or something

Sure the head is right about your shoulders, but the baseball came nowhere close to his head. You're blowing things way out of proportion if you think he was throwing at his head. This things have a way of working itself out. I'm sure this incident will be no different.

Not that big of a deal. 18-3 since the break, and mainly with out an MVP superstar. Really hard to believe. Like to see a win today at least win the series.

I guess it depends on your definition of "close." I'd say it was "close to the head." It's two inches away from busting him the chin. That's "close" in my book especially at 3 digits.
