You're much more trusting of politicians than I am then. More power to you for that. I hear a different message loud and clear.

So in your opinion had the govt not issued the land grants the RR wouldn't have happened? I don't buy that. It just made it easier and cheaper from the RR companies to complete. But if they didn't get the grants I'm guessing they would have purchased the neccessary land.

That one sentence, the one that started this whole thread is what we're arguing about. Anything good he said was overshadowed by that. Had he stayed clear of such rhetoric, he would have been ok. As it is, he slapped those that risked everything to build their business in the face.

I'm not a business owner and it hacks me off. Again, he overshadowed any good message he had.

It takes a lot of 'atta boys' to make up for one 'awe shucks'....

I think he made a real mistake blowing off the "smarts" and "working harder" attitude. Most of the business owners I've worked with put the average person to shame when it came to effort. Sure there were things in place that helped them grow their business. Those things were available to a great percentage of the population. The difference was in their efforts, their willingness to take a risk, and yes their "smarts" or at least their ability to recognize a need and develop a way to meet that need.

 

I think he may come to regret that speech. I imagine the ads are already in production.

The whole thing speaks to Mr. Obama's arrogance. This is the most egostical human being I think I have even seen.

There are even some poor who could pay something rather than paying no federal income tax.

 

I have no issue with low income earnings paying NO federal income taxes, it is the fact that many pay NEGATIVE federal income taxes that annoys me. IE their refund check is for MORE than what was withheld in the first place.
