IMO if a school ever needed the death penalty it's Penn State. If football is bigger than stopping child sexual abuse, what could possibly be a better example of lack of institutional control?

Between everything that happened, I would strongly agree if everyone involved was not out. There is a chance that it could happen still, but would be surprised with everyone involved being out.

 

I believe that the Freeh report indicated everything that most expected it to, including myself. It does not make the situation any better and damages Joe Paterno's reputation even more than it already had been. Penn State's reputation was already seriously damaged with all that happened and the report will not make it any better.

 

Regardless of what happens to the football program, it's going to take a long time to rebuild it again and I don't see it having anything remotely close to its glory days that it previously did.

This goes much deeper than football. ALL of the higher ups covered it up. I'e heard the university itself will get a form of death penalty in the way of restrictions on money given and financial aid given to students.

The incident is a major black eye to Penn State, however agree the NCAA has no grounds to stand on. Leave this to the ours and to the court of public opinion.

It's hard. My first thought is yes. After taking time to think about it none of the kids playing there now, none of the alum, none of the fans that live there had anything to do with that POS and all the higher ups that covered it up. It reminds me of a school like UK getting put on probation. The people that did the crime got out of dodge. The kids that served the punishment had nothing to do with the crime. With all that said I would back them if they got the death penalty and Penn State was my favorite Big 10 team in HS.

I think Penn State should lose its accreditation and be shut down as a place of higher learning permanently. It is obvious that the only learning going on at Penn State by its athletic departments and its educational leaders, is how to commit crimes, cover them up, and lie. The students currently there, should be allowed to transfer to the school of their choosing, at the expense of those at fault for the crimes and the cover up. Any athletes, should be give a free transfer to their choice as well, again, at those at fault for the crimes and the cover up.

 

Those that say the NCAA can not give them the death penalty because it is not an NCAA violation, are partially correct. However, lack of institutional control is an NCAA violation, that can lead to further investigations. The NCAA should do a full house investigation into Penn state, every form, every test score, every grade, every text, phone call, email, for every sport, and should through the book at any and all violations they can uncover. This I am sure, would lead to almost certain death penalty in almost every sport.

 

The campus of Penn State, every building, athletic facility, dorm room, campus book store, library, what ever building it is, should be demolished, every piece of debris removed, and it should be left as an open field, no visual of what used to be there, so that in 100, that generation will pass through that area and see nothing more than a grassy field and some trees and they will have never heard of Penn State.

Without question. If there is a "Lack of Institutional Control" chapter in the books, I don't know how this doesn't top the list. The institution lacked control in covering up the rape of children in order to maintain their "spotless" image. That is directly tied to the athletic department and football program. You can't possibly lack control of your NCAA institution in a manner worse than this. Death. Penalty...
