June 30, 201214 yr Severe thunderstorm watch in SW Ohio, just north of Cincinnati, until 10 p.m. First time I've ever considered that news to be a GOOD thing. I should have never said this! A massive wave of power outages hit the Concinnati area this afternoon. Over 175,000 homes lost power and only about 25,000 have it back now. We've been dark for almost 6 1/2 hours. Run to State lost his power too, but he hijacked a Duke Energy truck and held the crew hostage until they fixed his power. Thank God the storms cooled everything off. But God help us if this goes into tomorrow...as it appears it will. Duke says they won't even have an estimate of repair times until tomorrow. For compromised or elderly individuals, tomorrow could bring a real disaster.
June 30, 201214 yr I get to catsit(poolsit) a co-workers cats this week. I'm geeked. I'm 100% convinced I want to put an in ground pool in my next house.

I think I'd even go as far as refinancing our house if it means I could add an inground pool. I love pools that much and want a pool that badly. :lol:

I love pools that much and want a pool that badly. :lol: Our neighbor has a very nice inground pool and they invite us to swim anytime we want. It is much better than having our own. I am not so sure I would want to put in the time for the upkeep.

He put in chlorine pellets tonight which will be good for a month and cleaned the pool and said I may have to do that once or twice during the week. Check the filter daily(takes 5 minutes if full). Not enough upkeep for me to not want my own pool.

I would think the opening would be harder than the closing. I'd be the guy who opens the pool and starts getting it ready on the first April day that reaches 80 degrees. I'd also be opening the pool and getting it ready for use with a huge smile on my face. I'd probably be crying when it comes time to close it in October.

I'd probably be crying when it comes time to close it in October. We built our house 16 years ago and put the pool in 15 years ago...only regret is not putting the pool in the same time as the house. We got a lot of use out of it and always have a yard full of kids. I pay someone to open and close the pool. I could do it myself but I'm more comfortable with professionals doing in so they flush the lines and fill them with the anti-freeze type stuff. We also have the trampoline type cover which is a bear to get on and off. They also make sure the heater,pumps,etc.. all are in good working order. The daily maintenance is a piece of cake. About 5 years I stumbled across a site The Pool Forum and learned the BBB method of maintaining water chemistry in the pool. The 3 basics you need are Bleach, Baking Soda and Borax. You use these to maintain your chlorine, PH and Total Alkalinity. Very rarely will you need Muriatic Acid and CYA adjuster. Since switching over to this I have saved a fortune as oppossed to buying pool store chlorine, PH Up and Down, Alkalinity Up and Down,etc... The ingredients are the same exact thing but the pool stores mark it up a fortune. I buy everything I need at Sams. Sometimes I get the bleach at Aldi or Dollar Stores. The Muriatic acid you can buy for nothing at Home Depot. The only thing you have to buy at a pool store is the CYA adjuster and I go most seasons without ever needing that. I have turned many pool owners on to this BBB method. Everyone is very skeptical at first especially with pouring bleach into the pool but after doing it they swear by it and save hundreds of dollars a year on chemicals and makes it so much easier to maintain. I use a Maytronics Dolphin robot to clean the pool and it is unreal how thorough it cleans the pool. Since getting this I only run the pool pump and sand filter 5-6 hours a day as the robot does all the cleaning. Here is a pic of the Dolphin and I cleaning the pool!
