June 30, 201214 yr Just ran the most miserable 5K of my life. Brutal hot. I did 8 miles this morning. Mostly on a trail. It really wasn't all that bad.
June 30, 201214 yr We built our house 16 years ago and put the pool in 15 years ago...only regret is not putting the pool in the same time as the house. We got a lot of use out of it and always have a yard full of kids. I pay someone to open and close the pool. I could do it myself but I'm more comfortable with professionals doing in so they flush the lines and fill them with the anti-freeze type stuff. We also have the trampoline type cover which is a bear to get on and off. They also make sure the heater,pumps,etc.. all are in good working order. The daily maintenance is a piece of cake. About 5 years I stumbled across a site The Pool Forum and learned the BBB method of maintaining water chemistry in the pool. The 3 basics you need are Bleach, Baking Soda and Borax. You use these to maintain your chlorine, PH and Total Alkalinity. Very rarely will you need Muriatic Acid and CYA adjuster. Since switching over to this I have saved a fortune as oppossed to buying pool store chlorine, PH Up and Down, Alkalinity Up and Down,etc... The ingredients are the same exact thing but the pool stores mark it up a fortune. I buy everything I need at Sams. Sometimes I get the bleach at Aldi or Dollar Stores. The Muriatic acid you can buy for nothing at Home Depot. The only thing you have to buy at a pool store is the CYA adjuster and I go most seasons without ever needing that. I have turned many pool owners on to this BBB method. Everyone is very skeptical at first especially with pouring bleach into the pool but after doing it they swear by it and save hundreds of dollars a year on chemicals and makes it so much easier to maintain. I use a Maytronics Dolphin robot to clean the pool and it is unreal how thorough it cleans the pool. Since getting this I only run the pool pump and sand filter 5-6 hours a day as the robot does all the cleaning. Here is a pic of the Dolphin and I cleaning the pool! That picture shouldn't even be allowed on the forum. I'm so jealous. I'm thinking PP92 or RP need to flex their new muscles and suspend you for such an egregious offense. P.S. Pool looks GREAT.

June 30, 201214 yr I may be misinformed but I think it's the opening and closing of the pool that are the major pains. As much as I'd like to have one, I've heard they're an albatross from several pool owners. I think that's why God invented swim clubs. That may be true. I would think the opening would be harder than the closing. I'd be the guy who opens the pool and starts getting it ready on the first April day that reaches 80 degrees. I'd also be opening the pool and getting it ready for use with a huge smile on my face. I'd probably be crying when it comes time to close it in October. That's why you hire a pool man to do that. Well worth the $120

June 30, 201214 yr I should have never said this! A massive wave of power outages hit the Concinnati area this afternoon. Over 175,000 homes lost power and only about 25,000 have it back now. We've been dark for almost 6 1/2 hours. Run to State lost his power too, but he hijacked a Duke Energy truck and held the crew hostage until they fixed his power. Thank God the storms cooled everything off. But God help us if this goes into tomorrow...as it appears it will. Duke says they won't even have an estimate of repair times until tomorrow. For compromised or elderly individuals, tomorrow could bring a real disaster. I stayed in your neck of the woods last night. By the time I got there around 11 most of the folks had power again from what I saw, however there were still a lot of Duke trucks out. The Wilder exit looked to have had no power when I drove by, not even flashing lights at the intersection. It was weird seeing the movie and sports complex all completely pitch black.

"Derecho" of Power Storms Slam 700 Miles of the US That's just wild LC, like I mentioned earlier when I was watching the temperature radar map as this thing started to race south from what looked to be right around the great lakes I could tell it was some sort of an enomoly especially since we weren't supposed to have any sort of a cool down in the next 10 days yet the temp behind the system were dropping more than 30 degrees. Thanks for the link it's cool to have some more understanding of what took place. Miss not having NWO around to keep us informed.

June 30, 201214 yr That's why you hire a pool man to do that. Well worth the $120 Heck if that's all it costs, there can't be much to it. I'd probably just do it myself if it's that easy.

The pool did not help. Said 109 in my car today and I'm about 3 miles from CVG, I believe it seeing as how the car was parked in a blacktop parking lot with about 500 other cars. Warm.
