Your telling me that the stud RB that wants to play for Highlands but is out of District can't pay tuition no more to get it. I doubt it. Average students ok, those special students, I bet there is room.

Oh brother

Oh brother

Calm down, all schools districts have kids that come from out of district.

Some one from Ft. Thomas help me out though, has there been a huge population boom in that area or something? Or is this just an unusual increase in enrollment?

Class of 2012 = 178 students - smallest of the four classes at the high school

Incoming freshmen class will be around 230.

That is an increase of 50 students at the high school.

Next years 7th and 8th grade classes at the Middle School are each over 210 students right now.

I HOPE you are kidding! :ohbrother:

Is this the first time Highlands does not accept tuition from students that do not live in the district for high school? I can understand certain grades are full, and can't handle the size for new students.

The stud RB's get apartments in Ft. Thomas so that's not an issue. :D

I went to college with a number of students from Highlands. They were good athletes but they were better students. Academic and athletic excellence continues to the present in Ft. Thomas. Their athletes are not permitted to skate through class. It does not surprise me that there is a big demand for slots in the school.

Is this the first time Highlands has done this?

I don't think so; or at least I'm pretty sure it isn't the first time. With Ft. Thomas being pretty much built out, the enrollment of the school district generally doesn't fluctuate all that much, but from time to time there is a greater than normal turnover in home ownership. When that happens and older families without school age children are replaced with younger families with school age students you'll will see a minor "boom" in enrollment which is all it takes to fill the school.

As mex mentioned, this probably does help the value of homes in FT because of a parent really wants his/her kid to go to Highlands, he/she will have no choice but to buy a home in FT. Demand goes up; so do prices of homes.

I'm not sure it's good for the school's finances however. Under the SEEK formula, the district doesn't get near the money per student from the state needed to cover the cost of educating that student. Property values going up actually works against the SEEK formula funding as I recall. Further, if I recall properly, the tuition charged to out of district students is more than the district receives from the state for that student. I'm thinking the "closing of the doors" will result in a financial loss for the district. Oh well.

Glad to read your observation Flotsam. Thanks for the kind words about my little town and its school system.

If I remember correctly, it was a cold, snowy winter and cable went out......what else were we supposed to do?

Not at all BF, Im not making that statement to put a bash on Highlands for recruiting or moving in players. I am all for students attending what ever school they choose, for education or athletic reasons, if their out of district, pay tuition, no biggie to me.
