June 8, 201214 yr Author Just saw a publication last night where HHS was ranked two hundred and something in one national rating of high schools and one hundred and twenty something in another. Pretty strong. Outside of diversity , which has importance to some, it has everything you're looking for other than space.
June 8, 201214 yr Thats not really fair Clyde, if mom is an elementary teacher, she has no control over what the High School Teachers do. You hit the nail on the head.
June 8, 201214 yr Outside of diversity , which has importance to some, it has everything you're looking for other than space. And nice facilities, although they're improving.
June 8, 201214 yr Author There are quality teachers & students in every district... We all generalize about the Covington School system yet their IB program is top notch and puts out students that would be at the top of any school. Very few schools in NKY cannot provide a strong education for those kids that want it. SO that tells me it's not just about academics and I don't have a problem with that.
June 8, 201214 yr Author The mother also said the main reason they were sending him was not for football. She is a teacher in Boone County. Be careful. You could be putting this lady in a bad position.
June 8, 201214 yr Outside of diversity, which has importance to some, it has everything you're looking for other than space. That has changed quite a bit in recent years. When I went there, diversity mostly consisted of a few Asian kids and, well....me.
June 9, 201214 yr I am speaking from experience. I'm a HHS grad, I live in Ft. Thomas, my youngest of 4 just graduated from Highlands. Again I would like a resident chime in and tell us they think football is the more important than academics at Highlands. Out of the 4, 1 played football. His senior year they won a state title. Big deal? Yes. My daughter that just grauduated was awarded a Commonwealth diploma, among other awards. Though both fine achievements, we by far hold the academic accolades in higher regards than a ring and a patch on a jacket. And yes both were offered scholarships. Believe me the academic money is much more lucrative than the athletic. As far as most comments in this thread, I tend to dismiss most of it, as there is always a little green exposed when people discuss Highlands.
June 9, 201214 yr ^ I've lived here in Ft. Thomas for somewhere close to 25 years now. When we were looking for a house, the number one criterion for my wife and me was the school system. We chose Fort Thomas for obvious academic reasons, football had zero to do with it. My son ended playing for Highlands, that was just icing on the cake (pun intended). My daughter and her husband has hopes of moving back to Ft. Thomas for the same reasons we moved here.
