I don't think so; or at least I'm pretty sure it isn't the first time. With Ft. Thomas being pretty much built out, the enrollment of the school district generally doesn't fluctuate all that much, but from time to time there is a greater than normal turnover in home ownership. When that happens and older families without school age children are replaced with younger families with school age students you'll will see a minor "boom" in enrollment which is all it takes to fill the school.

 

As mex mentioned, this probably does help the value of homes in FT because of a parent really wants his/her kid to go to Highlands, he/she will have no choice but to buy a home in FT. Demand goes up; so do prices of homes.

 

I'm not sure it's good for the school's finances however. Under the SEEK formula, the district doesn't get near the money per student from the state needed to cover the cost of educating that student. Property values going up actually works against the SEEK formula funding as I recall. Further, if I recall properly, the tuition charged to out of district students is more than the district receives from the state for that student. I'm thinking the "closing of the doors" will result in a financial loss for the district. Oh well.

If they truly wanted to bleed blue, they would have moved to Ft. Thomas right? Valid point though.

Not at all BF, Im not making that statement to put a bash on Highlands for recruiting or moving in players. I am all for students attending what ever school they choose, for education or athletic reasons, if their out of district, pay tuition, no biggie to me.

I know Johnson Elementary had it's biggest 5th grade graduation they have ever had. More kids living in Ft. Thomas.

Geez, I had heard that they had shut off individual grades in the past when those particular grades had too many students but to close off the Middle and High Schools? Must have had a lot of families moving into homes that had previously been occupied by some of our senior citizens for this to happen.

How about the Southgate kids , they shut out too ?

As someone pointed out to me this could as a result of less and less Ft T parents sending their kids to NC.

Must have had a lot of families moving into homes that had previously been occupied by some of our senior citizens for this to happen.

That situation describes half of our neighborhood.
